“Educational and interesting”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Enjoyed roaming through the village. At the time we went, you were free to walk through the site at your own pace. Very educational and interesting. A step back in time, for sure.

“Maybe better in the summer.”
Reviewed May 24, 2013 via mobile

Interesting to look at for someone who likes history. Not much to hold the kids interest. Three cabins had people in it they didn't have much to say. Most of the cabins were closed up. As a side note mosquitoes were horrible so bring bug spray. Interesting subject but would like more details. Some signs are worn and can't be read, but this is donations only for admission so it's worth the drive.

“An Excellent Reproduction of Lincoln's Village”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

The cabins, stores, mills, blacksmiths, etc are all first class and are careful reproductions of the originals. The docents and living history interpreters are very well versed and it was very interesting to listen to them.
There is a bit of walking involved, but that is part of the nature of the beast.
The brochure leaves a little to be desired in that it essentially repeated the same info as was on the signs at each structure.
Well worth the drive out from Springfield to see this village where Lincoln spent several years as a young man.

“Amazing!”

It may be a little out of the way, but this is a must see! You are truly stepping back in time here. The people working and dressed really make it feel like you have stepped back 160 years.

“Rain spoiled the visit”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

Free admission but donations requested.
Short video presentation introduces you to the village. Then its off into the grounds. The huts are reconstructions over the original foundations. Sadly before we got past the third cabin there was an almighty thunderstorm and we only just made it back to the car before the heavens opened!
