Super 8 Peru Starved Rock State Park

I use budget motels often and am usually critical of the visit, but figure "You get what you pay for and shouldn't expect much". This is the exception...clean, comfortable and a dynamite staff. Love the early breakfast (5 am) because I usually get an early start. I stayed 4 nights and know it was the best deal I could imagine....they even made fresh coffee for me at 4 am because I had to leave early. Outstanding personnel and clean rooms...wonderful visit!!

Fine room for price. Clean, great shower, Walls a little thin but it was a weekend, and people were in a party moon. All employees were very friendly and will stay there again when I go home to visit.

Everything was super nice. Very helpful staff on check-in and check-out. Nice comfortable room, we had 2 beds. Great starter breakfast with lots to choose from. No complaints at all. Plenty of eating places close by, and shopping if you need it. Easy access to freeways. We'd stay there again, no questions.

Room Tip: Had a ground floor room, upstairs might be quieter. Not a real problem with this one.

We stayed here 2 nights to visit Starved Rock State Park. This was our first time ever trying out a Super 8. It is very affordable and the least expensive of the hotels around the town.
The Super 8 is going through minor updates. Our room was somewhat updated with new carpet, a new bedspread, headboard, and a big picture of the city of Chicago. It has a decent size LG TV. Good size fridge & microwave. Our room stated that it’s a Queen bed but it feels smaller than a queen, more like a Full. The hotel has 3 floors and no elevator so keep in mind that you have to take your luggage up without the convenience of an elevator. Our room is non-smoking, along with I believe the entire 2nd floor. And it still reeks of smoke! The entrance to the hotel, along with the back entrance reek of smoke as well. Security wise- I was shocked to see that anyone can enter the building without a hotel key! The room doesn’t come with an iron. The breakfast is “meh.” Nothing special. Pre-cooked waffles/pancakes, there’s toast, and really unhealthy pastries that you find at a gas station. Drink wise- there’s coffee, milk, OJ and apple juice.

The Wi-Fi was slow and disconnected very frequently. Hard to get work done.
You can hear everything! From the people using the stairs, the room doors closing, and the stomping of the people on the 3rd floor above us. The highway is loud, so if you’re a light sleeper get a hotel that isn’t close to the highway. If you have asthma do not stay at this place. I feel smoke in my mouth and lungs. Bring your inhaler if this is the only place available.

What the room needs:
A long head to toe mirror by the entry way would be convenient!
A ceiling light when you enter the room, there’s only 3 actual lamps. Room feels dark. (The room seems dark even with all lamps on!)
The bathroom needs a small soap dish
Bathroom is pretty dark when you’re using the shower.
Bathroom bath towels are pretty small, they seem to be medium size. The size I can dry my beagle with. They’re very dry/harsh to the touch. So recommend you bring your own!

Room Tip: Ask for a "semi"- remodeled room. There's no fully remodeled rooms. The old type rooms...

Reviewed this stop on tripadvisor for run & rest to Walcott, Iowa. Proved to be right on the mark. The room was clean and quiet. The price was right for sure. Breakfast served the purpose and off to Iowa after good nights rest. There are restaurants near Super 8 .
