This is our relaxation hote/pub we escape to for a chillout day. We popped in at the weekend for a quick coffee break and ended up staying for two and could barely tear ourselves away we were so chilled. We've booked for Mother's Day Lunch in a couple of weeks time as we are sure Mom will love it.

Overall impression? Far too busy to meet service standards. Not enough consideration for children. As if they were not welcome. No little touches to interest them. Booked last minute for Sunday lunch and received a good response from reception. On arrival we were put into an area that seemed like the 'second class' section. Hard bench seats and quite dark. The wooden place mats were not absolutely clean, Soup arrived for our little grandaughter in red hot crockery. The accompanying piece of bagette was rock hard, like a stone. I ordered the battered cod, which was presented upside down. Black skin showing through. Quite a small piece compared to other restaurants we have enjoyed. The rest of the food was good. Amazingly, the level of service was hindered by a major furniture removal activity which involved almost everyone including kitchen staff.. This resulted in us having to wait ages for our sweet order to be taken. Overall dissapointing.

We came across the restaurant in passing & thought we would nip in for some food.
The staff are welcoming & warming, there is a nice atmosphere & the restaurant is nicely decorated & finished. The food was beautiful, in fact it was better than we have eaten in some very high class recognised restaurants. I would ceryainly recommend eating here & have returned a few times since our first vist & the food has not dissapointed since.

The building is attractive on the outside, and the dining area is attractive.
The bedroom was very small and faded really. Chipped paint for example.
The bathroom was lovely with an enormous shower.
The restaurant food, like the rooms, didn't quite live up to its promises. The description was devine but in reality it didn't live up to it. I had fish with kale, pancetta, a scallop and gnocchi. The fish and scallop was cooked beautifully. The gnocci was tasty. But the kale and pancetta were virtually non existant. I asked for some vegetables because the meal was very carbohydrate heavy as there was a huge amount of gnocchi. I was given a luke warm bowl of kale that was dripping in oil. It was inedible. And then I was given a bowl of mixed steamed vegetables which were fine but at the end of the meal by that stage.
The staff were friendly.

Thank you for your recent comments on Trip Advisor regarding your stay with us in November 2012.

I have taken your points on board - with regard to the bedrooms - we refurbished the whole building in early 2011 and opened in April of that year. Some of the bedrooms do have chipped paint and these were repainted in early January 2013.

Your comments relating to our food - I am sorry you did not enjoy your meal - our menu has changed since your visit. I will pass your comments on to my team.

I do hope you visit us again, as you can see from reviews on this site this is not our usual standard.

Thank you for your comments.

A pleasant lunch in relaxing surroundings.friendly, Amenable staff who were polite and helpful. Mushrooms on toast with a perfectly poached egg was enjoyed and the lemon tart to finish was lovely although the pastry was slightly over done.
