“Doesn't deliver what it promises. Disappointing.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

The building is attractive on the outside, and the dining area is attractive.
The bedroom was very small and faded really. Chipped paint for example.
The bathroom was lovely with an enormous shower.
The restaurant food, like the rooms, didn't quite live up to its promises. The description was devine but in reality it didn't live up to it. I had fish with kale, pancetta, a scallop and gnocchi. The fish and scallop was cooked beautifully. The gnocci was tasty. But the kale and pancetta were virtually non existant. I asked for some vegetables because the meal was very carbohydrate heavy as there was a huge amount of gnocchi. I was given a luke warm bowl of kale that was dripping in oil. It was inedible. And then I was given a bowl of mixed steamed vegetables which were fine but at the end of the meal by that stage.
The staff were friendly.

Thank you for your recent comments on Trip Advisor regarding your stay with us in November 2012.

I have taken your points on board - with regard to the bedrooms - we refurbished the whole building in early 2011 and opened in April of that year. Some of the bedrooms do have chipped paint and these were repainted in early January 2013.

Your comments relating to our food - I am sorry you did not enjoy your meal - our menu has changed since your visit. I will pass your comments on to my team.

I do hope you visit us again, as you can see from reviews on this site this is not our usual standard.

Thank you for your comments.

A pleasant lunch in relaxing surroundings.friendly, Amenable staff who were polite and helpful. Mushrooms on toast with a perfectly poached egg was enjoyed and the lemon tart to finish was lovely although the pastry was slightly over done.

A lovely place top tip go on a Sunday 3 course meal is £19 per head but well worth it.
Starter a little on the small side if I had to give a negative that would be it.
Main meal always plenty and really shouldn't have a pudding but the dessert is the best you will have ever tasted, so can not be avoided!
This time tho the little things like the log fires were not lit, it was not cold in there but it's the end if December and it makes the place look warm and cosier if the fires are roaring!
Great service we go about 3-4 times a year.
Lovely and we may even go for breakfast sometime in the summer...
Superb!!

Thank you for your lovely feedback about your recent stay at The Dog and Doublet, Sandon.

I'm not sure why the fires weren't lit on the day of your visit? They should be lit every day at this time of year. I will pass your comments on to the team and hopefully see you again very soon.

Called in here about 2 months ago for a weekend lunch, never stopped going back since. This has now become our "local" although not local at all, but always worth the journey. I agree with all the previous good comments. Needs to be on your list for lunch or just a drink, not yet been in the evening but I can only assume it will be to the same high standard of friendly helpful staff lovely atmosphere and overall great place.

Stayed for 1 night for a wedding at nearby Sandon Hall. Arrived later than expected in horrible wet weather to be greeted by friendly, helpful staff in a lovely, warm and welcoming environment. The helpful staff (i believe her name was Marianne - apologies if this is incorrect!) tried to organise a taxi to Sandon Hall but unfortunately as the distance is really only across the road but up a long, stately home driveway, taxi's are understandably reluctant to come all that way for such a short journey so.. special thanks go to Richard, one of the bar staff, who very kindly drove us to Sandon Hall and offered us a lift back if he was still on shift - you can't ask for better service than that! Plenty of free parking, the room was lovely, the shower amazing and all the amenities you could ask for. Very happy to recommend to anyone needing to stay in the area.
