Recently returned from our fourth visit to Quarnford Lodge - a great venue for our annual christmas get together with friends from around the UK.The property provides comfortable accommodation and all bedrooms have en suite facilities. There's plenty of room for the kids to do their own thing, the small games room is a bonus and a large kitchen for the adults has all the facilities needed to cook a massive Christmas dinner. Property has always been clean and tidy on arrival with heating on in advance if requested. Already rebooked for christmas 2014.
For many years our large family have dreamt of spending Christmas together and this year our dream came true. At most we had 22 staying and at least there was 19. Oldest was 82 and youngest was 6 . But quarnford lodge was perfect for all . All rooms had en suite except one which had its own bathroom across the corridor. All rooms were basic but comfortable. Each room had either a wardrobe or a chest of drawers which was adequate but would be better with both . The kitchen was superbly equipped with loads and loads of crockery, glasses knives and forks pots and pans etc . Before we went I was worried about how we would manage to cook a Christmas dinner for so many people but It was no problem with 2 ovens and 2 dishwashers. There is a games room with a karaoke machine and a pool table and there is also a table tennis table which can be played in the large hallway. There is a large porch that can house muddy boots and bikes and great for keeping the beer cold ! There is a big log burner which you have to supply your own logs for but it is well worth it as it keeps the front room and dining room toastie. It's a good location for walking and cycling and not far from Buxton . Overall we all had a wonderful Christmas and would definitely recommend quarnford lodge
I regularly arrange directors meeting away days and this property was one that was a recent choice for a few days recently.
Whilst we found the property to be clean and tidy it was lacking in comfort with everyone of our group making comment on the comfort of beds and the lack of proper bedding (cheap thin duvet's with plain white covers that needed replacing - some with stains)
Heating in some rooms was ineffective whilst in others was difficult to control. Heating was on a timer that could not be accessed and at certain times of the day the property was markedly cold.
Our overall view on this property -- A rental property that might suit people who are out walking all day and just want a place to crash at the end of the day but other than that we have had many other rental properties that have been far superior at half the rental cost for the same number of people for the same number of days at the same time of the year.
What luck coming across this place - looks unremarkable (but nice) from the outside, but when you step inside to a warm welcome from Machala and her family, you realise this is something special. The place is done in a tudor style with rich woodwork throughout. Our room had a supersize king bed, generous closet, warm fluffy robes, tea and coffee making facilities, separate and private bathroom. Windows looked over the moors. There were two living areas for guests with comfortable couches, plenty of reading materials and selection of DVDs. Big table also with games provided for families. Great little pub a short walk up the road for dinner. This was one of the best places we've stayed in around UK. Would highly recommend staying here!
