many people dream of creating a corner of paradise together with a local community, few follow through their principles and dreams all the way. Dunes de Dovela is a very special place that has achieved something rare and beautiful. If you are looking for spectacular nature, peace, amazing food (Veronica's soup was the best soup i have ever tasted!) lovely people and the feeling that you have discovered something magical, then go and find this lodge. Beware though - after a couple of days of wandering the miles of dunes and deserted beach, watching dolphins and whales leap from the sea, you may decide never to come back.

Room Tip: the tents have amazing open air toilets, fabulous view but hot in summer!

All of the highly regarded reviews you will read on trip advisor about this property are correct. Without doubt, this was one of the most amazing experiences I've found from staying at a hotel.

We were greeted by Alexandra and driven by 4x4 14km from the main road. We found that we were the only people staying at the hotel as it was a quiet time of year. Alexandra and Thomas treated us like their friends and we both fell in love with the place.

We stayed in the semi-luxury tents. You really felt as if you were within the nature, and the views from our deck out to the dunes and sea beyond were stunning.

But not only is this a great hotel, it is also a fantastic story of two friends creating a perfect eco-lodge experience, which took four years to build. I was full of admiration, even more so considering they employed up to 60 local people to help with the project.

There were too many highlights, but some included the sunset walk with Alexandra (loved the surprise on the dunes!), delicious French food, toilets/showers with a panoramic view as you sit there, nature walks, the beach all to ourselves and mucking in inside the kitchen to demonstrate how not to cook a poached egg!

Thanks so much for the stay.

After a local bus trip from Maputo we arrived at the most precious place one can image. Beatifully located serene resort with luxurious cottages and well-equiped comfortable tents all with breathtaking views and privacy... The guided walks from Thomas and/or local Carlos are lovely with contagious enthousiasm about the flora and fauna. The exotic French cuisine - seafood! - is deliciously prepared and served while enjoying a stunning view over the dunes & ocean. After a few days you feel completely spoiled... The staff is super friendly and the French owners that founded and built this jewel deserve all compliments for what they do for the staff and people from the village Dovela in addition to the excellent service offered to the guests. Unbelievable!
Without exaggerating we can tell you that staying at Dunes de Dovela is like spending a few days in paradise. Highly recommended place to stay a few nights for those who love nature, dining, hiking & snorkling all combined in a very warm and relaxing environment. We will certainly come back...

Room Tip: All cottages are good located, but tent number 2 has probably the best view.

We spent three wonderful days in Dovela.
The perfect place to go if you like nature and authenticity!!

What we loved:
- the wakeup and outdoor shower in front of the Indian Ocean,
- the whales every morning at breakfast,
- hikes around Dovela with the friendly local guide Carlos,
- the delicious seafood that we are still dreaming of,
- discussions around apero with Alexandra and Thomas telling us stories about the Dunes de Dovela adventure
- and the general quiet atmosphere...

We loved!!
