This was the seventh stop of our 2014 annual train/pub crawl. This is kind of a classic older bar in the heart of downtown Palatine. They have a very different downstairs and upstairs bar. The Lamplighter is a Palatine staple and weekend launching point or eventual destination. It's doors open in the early morning hours to accommodate the late shifters coming home on the train. If you go when it is not busy, you will notice details you would otherwise miss during the weekend crush. The architecture and history of the building itself are pretty interesting. Before Dirty Nellies moved to its current location down the street, The Lamplighter was its late night neighbor across the street, and when the crowds let out of Nellies, they streamed into the Lamp. The bartenders are friendly and efficient, the prices are reasonable and there are always deals on tap. Speaking of tap, there are a limited number of craft brews here.
