This was the seventh stop of our 2014 annual train/pub crawl. This is kind of a classic older bar in the heart of downtown Palatine. They have a very different downstairs and upstairs bar. The Lamplighter is a Palatine staple and weekend launching point or eventual destination. It's doors open in the early morning hours to accommodate the late shifters coming home on the train. If you go when it is not busy, you will notice details you would otherwise miss during the weekend crush. The architecture and history of the building itself are pretty interesting. Before Dirty Nellies moved to its current location down the street, The Lamplighter was its late night neighbor across the street, and when the crowds let out of Nellies, they streamed into the Lamp. The bartenders are friendly and efficient, the prices are reasonable and there are always deals on tap. Speaking of tap, there are a limited number of craft brews here.

Friendly neighborhood bar with restaurant and carryout service. A longtime Palatine hangout. Centrally located, good food and drinks, good service.

Friendliest Bartender/Server and the food was outstanding. Great beer selection.
Met a old friend and the staff made us feel like we were regulars.

Girlfriend and I have been here a couple times. They have 32oz pitchers of Bud or Miller Lite for like $3.50, really cheap for a bar in downtown Palatine. The service is good and people are friendly. This place has a mixed crowd and can get pretty loud. Will definitely keep coming here and maybe will try their food as well.

This is a review of the Restaurant part, not the Bar, not the characters who hang out (I guess) on weekends... and just at lunch time. In other words, as a place to eat, not a pickup joint or an entertainment site. The room we were in, below the Deck, is unlike the bar area - not dark, not bar like. Almost too cheery. The food on last visit was just ok. The Cobb salads were pretty much ok, but seemed a bit pricey at $9. The Italian Beef was really a French Dip with green peppers. Beef was ok, but no spicy seasoning in it at all. Reasonable at $7 if you like that type. Service was very friendly, though they appologized for some "problems" we didn't even notice. All in all, an ok place, but great if the weather allows using the upstairs deck.
