We go here for lunch whenever we get the chance, but the truth is I am in love with the pickled mango. I have not come across this dish in other Indian restaurants, and today I asked the manager about the food and he said the owner was from Bombay in South India which explains a lot to me. Most Chicago Indian restaurants serve North Indian food, but my preference has always been South Indian food and that is what keeps me jonesing for Taj Mahal's luncheon buffet. Lots of delicious vegetarian options, but they also have chicken and beef available. My husband gets a chicken curry dish off the menu while I do the buffet every time since I like the variety. The restaurant itself is clean and small and part of a "strip" mall on busy La Grange Road in Chicago's far southern suburbs. I don't know if I'd drive more than 40 minutes to get here, but we do make the 20-minute trip a couple times a month. Today I asked if I could purchase a dish of the pickled mango and they fixed it for me in a well-wrapped Styrofoam dish. I'm so excited - thus the very happy review.
