If you like food from the old folks home this is the place for you. No wonder why this place is closing down

The food was always really good. It was a little expensive, but the boat on the river was really fun to watch.

We had hoped for the riverboat cruise however, the season was still too cold for business. Our backup plan was to eat at Maxson Manor, the restaurant affiliated with the riverboat (which is docked outside the restaurant). The whole fried catfish was a good deal and also appropriate to eat while watching the Rock River just a few feet from the dining room windows. The service was great and well-timed. The two staff working that night were both friendly and attentive. The view is fantastic for bird watching and to see Taft's Eternal Indian from the opposite side of the river. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. This isn't a modern au courant place but that is part of the charm; this is a traditional dining establishment where the staff wear bow ties, the salads are included, one gets a choice of potato in addition to the vegetables; and a quirky bread dish called orange bread is served. The Maxson menu could accomodate your grandparents or your grandchildren all at once.

The view at this restaurant is one of the absolute best I have ever experienced. The orange rolls to start each meal are great, but after that - there is literally nothing worth enjoying on the menu
