We have visited the Wieninger winery and Heuriger recently with a company outing. Full success. We had the Heuriger for us on its "closed" day, so cant say about the service when its busy. The food was excellent, even though it was buffet style. The wine is of course also great. The atmosphere was really 'gemütlich' (cosy) as one would expect. Can only recommend, its worth the trip to the Vienna suburbs.

Got to Heuriger and had a strange experience, the first half awful fighting through a huge line of people to get food and trying to get served in the rain by an overworked waitress. The food was good especially the cabbage rolls and the wines were uniformly good with Danubis being very tasty and the whites crisp and dry. We all felt like tourists should not be there and thats unfortunate because its hard to get to by S Bahn and then streetcar with a 10-15 minute walk down the street as the food and wine are very good. Only go if you have a burning desire to be ignored by staff(our waitress did try but no one else did) and time to get there. A mixed experience that I am still a bit irritated by.

I am a visitor to Vienna with family who live here, today we ventured out to find a traditional Heurigen for lunch......Well what a lovely place.....one of many in this sleepy little village of Stammersdorf...Away from the tourist trail it is very well supported by the local population and those in Vienna that know of it's reputation. Tourists would have to research this location, and know or heard of it...there is a bus service available to get here.........It was a quiet lunchtime when we visited and there were many people in, but not over busy....Not able to sit out under the hanging vines as it was drizzling, we sat in one of the many knooks and crannies this place offers, everywhere is decked out in golden wood and furniture to match...... The waiter was very efficient and friendly. The tasted a few wines but the favourite was a'' red'' crisp clear smooth vintage, when ordering food you go to the ''hot counter'' and the plates are weighed then you make your choices and the plate is weighed again, this is how what you pay is determined...There is also an exeptional choice of salads which were all very appetising....we chose Meat dumplings with lentils and potato and root vegetable with mayonnaise....very traditional food for the area and Heuringer. Excellent quality of food, good ambience and company, efficient pleasant staff and a lovely location.....would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to find somewere out of the way....

One of many heurigers in this area. We chose it because we know the wines. It is very large place with inside and outside area. I can imagine it can get too much on a busy evening. We went there early sunday afternoon when it wasnt so busy. We were very surprised by the excellent quality of food. You either pick your selection of mainly cold dishes that are on display - you just point at what you like and say how much of it you want. It gives you the great option to try little bit of everything. Or you can order from the small menu that has the current specials, such as asparragus dishes. The cold food was great - meat in jelly with pumpkin seed oil, terrine, marinated beef, bean salad. All delicious. Two small but filling plates for 13 eur. Good price of drinks too. Definitely will be back.

We ventured out to Wieninger on our honeymoon to have a quiet day outside tasting wines and local food. We chose to go to Stammersdorf over Grinzing as there are fewer tourists and we heard the quality of the heurigen are better. Though a bit of a trek from Vienna, this day trip was totally worth it! Stammersdorf was a quiet, scenic little town with several good heurigen, but Wieninger was our favorite by far. The food was simple but traditional and delicious (as well as cheap!) and we tried many wines, all of which were very good. The garden outside was gorgeous and made such a lovely backdrop for a fabulous day. Would definitely recommend going here if you like wine and are interested in a traditional heurig experience!
