“An unexpected place of luxury”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2012

I would have given this hotel 5 stars but for the shower (low water pressure) and the heating in my room (4) being problematic, a boiler needing attention! The room was very comfortable and spacious with a view overlooking the town. There are quite a few stairs to negotiate with no lifts. the restaurant and adjacent bar are very comfortable and warm! The food is excellent top marks to the chef! Very friendly and helpful staff! Thank you for a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Executive rooms are very spacious and only a few pounds more.

Well booked it blind and hoped for the best , and wow will use again . Nice rooms easy parking at the side and the staff are very polite and helpfull .
Food a touch expensive but well presented and taste very good .
Before any one has a moan you are right buy the clock tower , yes it chimes on the hour but i still slept like a baby .
The hotel to use when you stop in the area .

I picked the Royal Hotel in Cumnock because it was close to Turnberry and rooms were difficult to find during horse racing week in Ayr. What a great surprise, large bedrooms and bathrooms all recently remodeled, very helpful and professional staff. In addition the Dumfries Arms Hotel is a five minute walk up the high street for one of our best meals in Scotland. If you are traveling in this part of Scotland you won't be disappointed if you stay at the Royal Hotel in Cumnock.

Stayed at the Royal for just the one night whilst travelling from Bristol to Ayr to collect a boat (and it just happened to be Ayr races weekend).

As other reviewers have said, the hotel exterior doesnt look the greatest, and you fear the worst when you see the sports bar adjoining the car park. However, inside the hotel is furnished very smartly, and you therefore get the benefit of modern decor with a bit more character than you would in a more modern hotel. The carpet in the entrance stairwell and communal areas is something to see - with a (very) bold swirling pattern I think it would be a challenge if you overdid the local hospitality!

Huge room and bathroom - both well decorated. Here are the two caveats to my rating:
1. Our room was cold and the radiator (only visible means of heating) didnt work - I could probably have made a fuss and the very helpful chap on reception would have done something for us - but I didnt;
2. The water pressure in the shower was awful - no excuse for this really.

Didnt have dinner at the hotel - wanted to (as I had driven 7 hours to get there) - but I am vegetarian, and thought the vege menu was limited (fajitas or curry I think). Breakfast was really good, and really nicely presented.

So, value at £65 - with the couple of things above sorted - yes, probably. Otherwise, not.

Room Tip: Room 2 at the front (side) of the hotel has the church directly opposite - so expect a 7am wake up c...

We stayed here the night before attending a wedding at the, obviously bigger sister hotel, Lochside. The rooms were superb and the staff very welcoming. Had dinner which was excellent and great value, for 5 people with drinks was around £100. Would definitely recommend the hotel. My only criticism would be the water pressure when having a shower, you have to run around a bit to get wet.

Booked at short notice and booked a standard room. Pleasant efficient staff. Good value at £40 for the standard room and breakfast. Clean, modern, good en-suite and big TV. Will return there when I'm next in the area.

We stayed in the hotel for two nights on our annual tour of aryshire with my 92year old mother we do the rounds of old haunts as stayed in cumock many years ago.The hotel was very nice the rooms were huge and very comfy and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful The food was brilliant and a very good menu had trouble choosing what to have as there was so much choice. Would definetily recomend the chicken curry it was lovely and the cheese cake well yummy. The stairs were a bit of a problem for my mother there is just so many. A stair lift would help at the main entrance. The noise from the taxi rank when the pubs emptied kept me awake on the saturday night but it was all quite on the sunday night.

Room Tip: If stayin on a saturday night take ear plugs
