“Wonderful stay!”
Reviewed November 10, 2011

I stayed in the Dumfries arms for two nights with my wife, to attend a wedding. It is absolutely beautiful, we had a fantastic time. The room was big and very luxurious, I've stayed in 5 star hotels that have not matched too the standard of this place. Service was spot on, and the food was excellent.

Booked a midweek meal with friends there. Staff were welcoming and although in resturant there was a slight mix up it was recitfied and appoligies given. Our waiters were very pleasant and attentive with food being very well presented hot and tasty. The decor is fabulous and will definately go again.

The purpose for my visit was for a bithday meal with friends. The decor was outstanding and pretty breathtaking. Arrived on time but were asked to wait in the bar area as table not ready, again the bar area was beautiful, it would have been nice to have been offered drinks at this point as the bar man was no where to be seen, however this did not happen. 20 minutes late we were taken to our table (not a problem) just factual. Dining room again fabulous, two starters soup & noodles were acceptable, but king prawns were very poor, five prawns in a watery puddle., should have complained & sent them back at the time, but didnt. Main courses particularly the steak pie were great. Will definately go back, but will not have the prawns & will be a little more demanding of the service.

Firstly I would like to say the refurbished hotel looked fantastic. We had dinner on Saturday 29th October. We sat in the bar as we had arrived early and read the menu until we were called to our table which was a little after our booked time. Quick to take our order as we had already decided, but service was very slow for both courses (although we did get an apology but not a reason). The starters were nice, but the mains of steak (dry) and Teriyaki noodle beef (over done) could have been better. We also ordered a nice bottle of wine to go with dinner, but the server obviously didn't know that when the cork is removed we should be allowed to try it before its plonked down on the table without a word. No one seemed interested in whether we enjoyed our food or not as we were never asked. We have been to the Railway Hotel on many occasions and enjoyed good service and I expected the same here. Maybe its early days!

Took a trip to the newly refurbished Dumfries Arms for a wee overnighter with the family. Easy drive from Glasgow and a very convenient base for a tour of nearby Dumfries House. The hotel has undergone a total refurbishment and the interior and the rooms are simply stunning.

We had dinner in the bar and enjoyed fantastic tempura starters followed by a top notch DA burger and a steak pie which was up there with the one "your granny used to make".

The staff were very friendly and efficient and we will definitely be back - a hidden treasure!

A family wedding was the reason that we were in the hotel just as it re-opened after major refurbishment.
My wife and I shared a room; our son, daughter-in-law and 21-month old grandson shared a second room while our daughter, son-in-law and 3-year old grandson were in a third room. The rooms were all very well equipped, beautifully furnished and perfect for a good quiet sleep.
The staff were excellent, even when we asked for a quick lunch service before attending the church wedding service. Dinner was in the hotel function suite as part of the wedding reception and did not disappoint.
Our stay was completed with a family breakfast together which included full Scottish breakfast.
The whole family departed this lovely hotel and then visited the nearby Dumfries House stately home that is only a few minutes drive away.

Room Tip: The rooms are all excellent.

The Dumfries Arms Hotel in Cumnock, Scotland, was a glorious surprise as we sought accommodation in a small, perhaps out of the way country town, Cumnock, in SW Scotland. Having undergone a recent total upgrade and opening just 4 weeks before our arrival, the hotel was impressive from the outside and it only got better when we entered the foyer and were greeted with a sweeping palisade staircase, a mock fireplace (even though it was summer it was chilly and wet) and piano and pleasantly smiling reception staff.
We were offered a room inspection before placing a booking. The fittings and interior decor was tastefully done and the manager told us how he had used local tradesmen on his upgrade.
Manager of the restaurant Evan, and waitress Monica were very well groomed and attentive and chatted with guests through the evening. Evan quietly promoted the Hotel and ensured that our group of 4 had a memorable night.
The restaurant menu was varied while meals were tasty, and quality and quantity outstanding for money exchanged. Free WiFi was available in the foyer and signal strength was good.
The breakfast included orange juice, cereal, a full Scottish breakfast as well as toast and tea/coffee. Again we were well looked after.
If you are going to be in the area, you will not be disappointed in the Dumfries Arms.

Room Tip: All rooms were exquisite!

Fully renovated in 2011 the Dumfries Arms is a contemporary, stylish boutique Hotel with 26 stunning guest rooms, stylish restaurant and function facilities that ensure its place as one of Ayrshire's largest and most stunning wedding and events venues. Rich in history, The Dumfries Arms Hotel has stood at the heart of the ancient burgh of Cumnock, Ayrshire since the early 18th century and even predates nearby Dumfries House, saved for the nation by HRH The Prince of Wales and now one of the nation's most stunning heritage attractions. Over its 300 year history the hotel's guests have included some colourful and well known characters including our national bard, Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott, who made reference to his stay in Old Cumnock..."Where beds are as hard as a plank, sir". Much has changed since! However, as an important part of our heritage, due homage has been accorded with these historic words being embroidered on soft furnishings within our guest rooms. We should add that our beds are magnificently comfortable! We look forward to welcoming you to one of Scotland's newest, privately owned boutique hotels whether as a resident, diner, or to view our stunning function facilities if you are planning a very special event.
