“Southern hospitality in Chicago!”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

This is my first Staybridge stay, and I am glad I chose this hotel from a handful nearby. First of all, the kind and professional staff makes up for any renovation underway. It's obvious the staff have pride in their jobs. The renovations are going to be beautiful - spacious, comfortable great room with fireplace and outdoor deck overlooking a marshy area. The rooms are very comfortable - large couch with chaise end and two rolling ottomans, comfortable bed, mini kitchen with silverware, dishes, cooking stuff, fridge, dishwasher, coffee maker, etc. Nice roomy desk, fast internet connection. Big bathroom, closet and drawers. It's on a quiet kind of dead-end/unfinished road adjacent to office buildings. Can't really walk to much, but their shuttle will take you anywhere within 5 miles - you just sign up at front desk for drop off and pick up times daily (from like 4pm to 8:30pm). I can't say enough about how nice the drivers were, especially the guy who was also an engineer. There are two big malls nearby - the Oakbrook Center is beautiful with TONS of restaurants and ritzy shopping; the Yorktown is more generic/indoor with a Target nearby. The gym was very hot as it's in same room as laundry. I would like to suggest they consider mounting a fan above the treadmills. Thankfully the weather was nice and I could go for a run outside. Plenty of laundry machines. Free breakfast daily, free social hour with appetizers on Tues/Wed/Thurs with free wine/beer. If you need a taxi for airport, ask the desk they will give you name and corporate account number for a flat rate so you don't get ripped off from unsavory taxi services. I'd also like to suggest to management they consider getting robes - make them available for use while there and purchase upon departure if you want (so they don't lose money from anyone taking them). This is a very nice place to stay. Good luck with your renovations!

Room Tip: My room on the 4th floor was very quiet - I could not hear anyone next door to me. The elevator is...

The hotel is undergoing renovation and aside from all that, the staff and their efforts to please all their customers was spot on!! The room I stayed in was really neat and clean and it over looked the pond and I could see the ducks swimming and it was pretty cool.... Their breakfast is not the greatest, but then again they don't have a restaurant but their staff made all the difference. My room had a regular fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kitchen sink, regular cups and dishes. The location is great - not far from Midway Airport, very close to the Aurora train line to get into Chicago, and plenty of shopping & dining options very nearby the hotel. This a great place to stay, and if your travels ever bring you to these parts, please be sure to stay at one the nicest places ever!!

The main lobby is being tiled and a terrible job at that - some tiles are higher than others, spacing is really bad! So it looks rather messy. The rooms were nice, beds are comfy, breakfast was nice bacon one morning, sausage another. Staff very friendly. Free breakfast, parking, and WiFi. It was a little more to book with hotel than with Expedia - but was cancelable when booking through hotel and was not with Expedia - there was a chance we might need to change locations - or get less rooms (we had 4).

Room Tip: 3rd or 4th floor if infants/toddlers napping in afternoon, less noise from reno work. Also if you wa...

The hotel is undergoing renovations so the lobby area and some rooms are worked on during the day. But the renovated rooms are fabulous. The bed was comfortable and the room was as nice. The internet connection not so great. The staff truly makes this place special. They are just so attentive to your needs/wants.

Traveled to the area to visit family. I chose this property because of the location, rate and the promise of recently completed room renovations.

Our 1 bedroom suite (412) faced the pond and was right around the corner from the elevator. The room was very clean, had new carpet, a comfortable sleeper sofa and a great chair and ottoman in the bedroom. The king bed was huge. I was there four nights (7/9-7/13) with our two toddlers and the three of us slept very well. The bathroom fixtures were new and modern while the tub was original. Great water pressure. The kitchen featured nice, stocked cabinets, glass tile backsplash and a deep sink and new faucet. The fridge, dishwasher and two-burner electric cook top and microwave were the older, white models but that wasn't a concern for us. We were happy to have a full size fridge to store milk, ice cream, etc. There were televisions in both the living room and bedroom. The DVD player was very helpful and allowed for fun movie nights! :) Our family members were able to visit with us and everyone had a comfortable place to sit. My boys loved watching the ducks from our window and I was very pleased with the safety of the room as almost every furniture item was child-friendly with no sharp corners.

Overall, service was warm and friendly. The evening meals were a nice touch and included your choice of beer and wine. One night was pizza, another burgers and bratwurst and the third enchiladas/tacos. Breakfast offered eggs, sausage, make-your-own waffles and assortment of muffins, donates, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. One afternoon, the front desk sent up a complimentary snack back with a bottle of juice and a couple energy bars.

While we were there, the lobby and main hall/dining area were undergoing renovation. I really liked the ease of accessing the property and no-hassle parking in the lot or on the street. Not sure why a prior reviewer complained about street noise as Staybridge is tucked away from all the traffic on Cermak/22. We did have a fairly loud AC unit, so perhaps that's why we didn't hear anything. However, the hotel overall was very quiet, especially considering it was booked up during our entire stay. We never heard anything besides folks chatting on the way to the elevator.

We had a couple repair needs as the toilet was loose and a shelf from the closet system fell on our last night, but that didn't hamper our stay. We were so comfy we didn't want to leave, but we booked too few nights and had to move to another property with vacancies. Staybridge was booked a week out!

Would recommend this property and would not hesitate to stay here again on our next visit.

Despite a few minor issues it seems like you really enjoyed your time with us. We do apologize for the lobby renovation but the great news is the majority of the work is now complete with the main area now open including the breakfast room. So we please come visit us again so you can see all the improvements we have made.

Booked a 2 bedroom suite, and it was exactly what we were expecting. Great room for a traveling family. The rooms were clean, and we had plenty of space (2 bedrooms + common room with kitchenette). The location is great - not far from Midway Airport, very close to the Aurora train line to get into Chicago, and plenty of shopping & dining options very nearby the hotel. Whenever we head back to the Chicago area, we will be checking this hotel for rooms first. Our experience here was very good. The staff helped us with finding the train station & places to eat, as well as finding a grocery story to pick up some snacks & sodas (and a bottle of wine) to take advantage of the kitchenette we had. The lobby area was being renovated (as noted in some other reviews), but who cares? I guess we just don't spend a lot of time in the lobby, so it did not affect us.

Room Tip: The 2 BR suite we enjoyed had 2 double beds in one BR, and a single queen in the other BR, and then...

Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Chicago. Having booked a room with 2 queen beds in advanced, we finally ended up in a room with only one queen bed and got told that, unfortunately, the rooms seem to be advertised with 2 queen beds due to the pull-out-sofa bed...(@hotel management: please go ahead and correct those advertisments in the booking portals!).
Though our room had been newly renovated, they missed to replace the old-fashioned windows which are not shutting up properly so that you can hear the noise from the highway...
Besides this, rooms are pretty small and quite fully packed with the mentioned sofa-couch and the kitchen (in other hotels, you get a room sized like this as a standard hotel room...)

Apart from that, be aware that at the moment, half of the hotel is under construction...
At least the waffles at the breakfast have been nice if you managed to get also a plate for them...(plates and cups really seem to be expensive in Oakbrook ;-) ).

Room Tip: If you are unsure about the room, call the hotel in advance before booking in order to clarify it...

Dear Guest,

We apologize for your disappointing stay. We always want to make sure that all guests requests, especially room types, are met but in this case there was some confusion. This will be reviewed with our staff. So will the window and breakfast issues. In regards to the hotel renovation, the good news is we are about a week from completion, so we hope that next time you travel to the Oak Brook area you will give us another chance.
