“An average stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2010

Returned to Chicago for an extended weekend trip to return a visiting family member home. Booked 2 rooms (for a family of 4 with 2 small dogs) at this LQ in advance and got a decent rate (LQ’s rates a generally lower than most hotel chains). Read the reviews and didn’t know what to expect. We stayed at a nearby Staybridge Suites during a previous visit just a little over a month prior, so we were familiar with the area. For a discount hotel, it was a decent place. The location was about as good as you can get; near a couple of major malls, a slew of high-end to fast food-type restaurants, retail shops and corporate facilities.

The rooms were adequately sized for two people (one king bed and one double beds) with the basic amenities. Ours also included a microwave and mini-fridge. The rooms were surprisingly clean and did not look as out-dated as I expected. Fairly large bathrooms and toiletries. The continental breakfast was basic, but decent enough if you didn’t feel like going out to eat (it was cold and snowy, so eating out early in the morning wasn’t too appealing). The free wireless internet seemed reliable and fast enough. The only problems we experienced: 1) the cable wasn’t very clear in our room, so they moved us into another one which was much better, 2) the toilet in the kids’ room backed-up once, but the maintenance guy was dispatched fairly quickly to resolve the problem, and 3) although we were told we were on a non-smoking floor, we still caught the faint remnants of second-hand smoking now and again. A room deodorizer we purchased basically solved that problem. The staff was helpful and informative about the local area.

Other than that, no other major issues. Traveling with a teen and a tween now requires us to book two rooms, so we have to look at bargain and discount hotel chains. If we should return to this area, we will definitely consider staying here again.

The good and the bad. The good: location has easy access and is in the middle of a number of shops and restaurants. Also, the service at the hotel is very good. We had a couple of problems with the room, and the maintence fellow came right away to fix the problem. The Bad: the hotel room was tired and well worn. The breakfast room was so crowded there was a long line for the waffle machine and absolutely no room to sit. Many people had to take food back to their rooms. The free wireless connection was very slow and was sporadic.

I've stayed at this hotel a number of times this year, but am only writing a review now because I really didn't want to let out the secret of this place and have it get too crowded. But this place is truly a hidden gem in the western suburbs of Chicago. It's only minutes from Oakbrook Mall, Yorktown Mall, Drury Lane, and the expressway, but its set back on a quiet street away from noise and traffic. The rates are usually terrific, making it a great value for the location. The hotel is middle of the road, not luxurious. But its a great value not only for the location, but because the rooms are very clean, and well arranged and thought out. The bathrooms are large, and the rooms are an adequate size with a chair, closet and convenient 2 person desk. There is also free wireless internet service. If you're visiting this part of Chicago, there are more luxurious and expensive hotels nearby, but if you're looking for a reasonably priced place to rest your head, you can't beat this LaQuinta

When my husband and I were making arrangements to attend a church conference, we were trying to find something more economical than the nightly rate we were quoted for the conference location. La Quinta's low nightly rate initially enticed us, but we were won over by the attention to service, clean rooms, and free continental breakfast. Because of La Quinta we calculated that we saved approximately $200 as opposed to staying at the conference hotel, which was only a mile away from this location! We selected a room with a microfridge so we were also able to save some money by shopping for groceries and eating meals in our room. Immediately after we checked in, the front desk called to make sure that everything was satisfactory...a nice touch. This hotel is less than a mile away from a variety of restaurants and a local grocery store, and about 1-2 miles away from the nearest shopping mall. If you are planning a visit to the Oakbrook Terrace/Lombard area, I would check this hotel first before all others....take it from someone who shopped around, you may find a cheaper room elsewhere, but you won't find a better value for your dollar!

We (7 people - I think all of us were completely satisfied w/ our stay) stayed here while visiting relatives in Hindsale. The rooms are not huge, but were very clean, very comfortable and very quiet (my sister in the room next door did not hear our rather loud 2 year old and my parent's room was next to the elevator and across from the ice machine - they couldn't hear any of the noise generated by those things). The staff was super friendly and helpful - wireless internet is included for people who have laptops, and there is a computer in the lobby w/ internet for guest use. They keep coffee going all day long, with real half and half, and fortunately for our 2 year old, cold milk was available around the clock too. For breakfast, you have a choice of waffles, hard boiled eggs, cereal, a couple of juice choices, bagels, english muffins, toast, fresh fruit, yogurt....... For the price, you really can't beat it. Oh, and we took advantage of the swimming pool (outdoor) which was perfectly clean and fun too. Don't expect super luxury, but it's a fine place to hang your hat if you're in the area.

The la Quinta is truly a hidden jewel. A very nice hotel with 3 floors and several buildings in a fairly quiet settingwith many activities, shopping and easy interstate access. I was a little nervous booking this room at $71 per night, as we usually stay at Embassy Suites Oakbrook. But at $169/night vs $71 per night, I felt it was worth the risk. We ended up getting two adjoining rooms and still spending less than the Embassy with a lot more room and 4 beds. No one had to sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed. One of the rooms had a refrigerator and Microwave. We had a problem with one of the sinks draining. We called and within 5 minutes we had a maintainence man at our door and he gave us chocolate cookies and bottled water as an apology for the inconvenience.
The rooms are spotless and maid service very prompt. Beds were a little soft, but the excellent service, cleanliness, free internet, easy parking, acessability as well as a decent hot breakfast made up for it.
