Bishops Hall Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 3 Oak Park B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 4, 2013

There are great places and then there are truly exceptional experiences. Bishop Hall is a truly exceptional experience. The former Orthodox bishop's residence has been transformed into museum-quality rooms that contains art work (my favorite is in the dining room), hard goods, china and enough charm to fill an old English inn. Except this is infinitely better. The owner greets you and takes you to one of three rooms. Tartan was our choice, overlooking the gardens with a small outdoor patio, but there are two other equally splendid rooms. Be sure to spend time in the garden. Chuck prepares breakfast in the larger dining room or smaller breakfast room. It's a real treat. You'll have a ball.

Room Tip: You can't really make a mistake here. The Tartan is the middle room with a series of smaller ro...

Stayed here in May, for 3 nights. The owners, Chuck and Sam, were gracious hosts! The breakfasts were bountiful and good. The units are well-appointed (there are only 3 units). The location is good if you want to see things in Oak Park, and it's just a half-mile from an El station, so downtown Chicago is only a half-hour away. The neighborhood is a quiet one, consisting of nice old two-story homes with some FLW homes intermixed.

Room Tip: The least expensive unit is pretty tight, due to large bed and several pieces of furniture. Also, th...

We spent a weekend under the wonderful care of Chuck and Sam. Their home is simply beautiful, located in a stunning and serene neighborhood just 9 miles West of downtown Chicago. From the grand entranceway, to the perfectly appointed guest room, the B&B is the perfect place to experience the charm of Oak Park. The proprietors were happy to recommend the right spot for dinner, serve a delicious breakfast, and be available for any advice needed on the surrounding area. They are simply delightful hosts, and we highly recommend this B&B.

I was lucky enough to stay one night here and am having a difficult time finding the exact words to describe the experience. Superb! Chuck and Sam, proprietors, have created the most elegant B&B ever! The home, furnishings, finishes, service (pampering) and location are top notch! Once you stay here, it will be difficult not to return.

If you like to be spoiled and be surrounded by beauty then Bishops Hall is the place for you. We have stayed in B and B's as well as hotels throughout the world and Bishop Hall is by far the most beautiful we have ever experienced. Not a detail was overlooked from the heated towels in the bath to the amenities at every turn. When we arrived we were offered sherry in the library by a warm fire. Breakfast was lavish in the dining room or intimate in the beautiful sun room. We were visiting our very close friends who lived nearby and since the owners also knew them they hosted all of us, including our 6 year old God son even making a special child's breakfast for him. Having stayed at the Peninsula in Hong Kong to hotels in the Mayfair district of London to Chateau in France we still feel that this stay was by far the nicest.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room shown in the picture. All of the rooms are beautiful. The location is in the...

Proprietors Chuck and Sam are possibly the greatest part of this lavish B&B experience! They delight in their immaculate Bishops Hall, and go more than the extra mile...more like an extra marathon of service and amenities. Tea with Chuck on arrival, fresh roses in my room, coffee and hot muffins left unobtrusively in the hallway at 6:00 am and announced with a whisper of a gong (I had to be out by 7 and didn't want breakfast), a full hot breakfast with Sam on the one morning when I could stay "home". The room - excuse me - the suite - was something out of Architectural Digest (or Downton Abbey, if you prefer). A four poster bed, a roaring fire flanked by two over sized chairs, a claw-foot tub, a marble tiled, rainforest shower with steam-option - the list goes on. The only downside to this establishment is that it has set the bar way to high for any one/any place else.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong, but the large suite will spoil you for life!

I had business in Chicago and thought it would be a good idea to bring my college-age niece with me since she was on spring break. I wanted her to experience the luxury and warmth of Bishop's Hall as I had stayed there once before. Sad for us, it rained every day of our 4-day stay, but thanks to hosts Sam and Chuck, the sunshine of their hospitality trumped the dreary weather. They met us at the airport and gave us a quick overview of the city, then dropped us off to shop til we dropped. Of course they provided us with umbrellas, as well as advice on the best places to eat, shop and be entertained. My niece is vegetarian, and their recommendation of a restaurant couldn't have been better. I am not...and they steered us (pun intended!) to the BEST steak I've ever eaten! All their recommendations were spot on! Bishop's Hall is immaculate with great attention to the little luxuries: like special toiletries, gourmet chocolate on your pillow, the fluffiest towels ever, soft background music, and fresh flowers everywhere. They have figured out how to indulge ALL your senses! It is located in a quiet neighborhood so we got great rest and felt absolutely safe going for a morning jog. Breakfast is an experience with exquisite food exquisitely served. We returned home glowing from having been made to feel so special. My niece had an experience she will never forget...and I can't wait to return. I too, like many of the other reviewers, will never stay anywhere else when I'm in Chicago.

Room Tip: There are only 3 rooms. All are beautiful and quiet and comfortable. Treat yourself to the largest...
