My wife and I love to dine at Chicago's "old school" restaurants, and places like Golden Steer and Tom's Steakhouse have been favorites of ours. We made the trek down Cicero from the Northside last weekend and had a great dinner at Petey's.

Like other reviewers, we agree that this place has so much to offer, and yet is in danger of going the way of the dinosaurs. The staff is incredibly nice, the ambience is classic 1960's and the value is incredible for what they offer!

We sat at the bar and each ordered a martini while waiting for our table, and the drinks were top-notch (and only $15 for two!). When we sat at our table, we were brought water and a relish tray right away. We love these blasts from the past: crisp veggies on a bed of ice, including olives, pickled peppers, carrots, scallions, etc. We munched on these while deciding on the menu.

My wife ordered the porterhouse, and I ordered their "house special" slow pan-fried chicken. Each entree comes with soup, salad, potato/fries, coffee/tea, and dessert. This is CLASSIC supper club my friends. After we ordered, they brought small monkey dishes of cottage cheese, macaroni salad, beets...and something else that fails my memory now. Wait, we get all of the courses, and you STILL bring us more snacky treats??? I love this place.

The soups were delicious (Greek lemon-rice-chicken soup is a specialty), salad was standard (with plenty of dressing on the side), but the entrees and potatoes were outstanding. Dessert choices are minimal, but there is ice cream if you don't want rice pudding or jello :)

We left stuffed and carrying leftovers, and all for $90 including generous tips to both bartender and our waitress.

Please give Petey's and other classic restaurants a fresh visit, and keep these institutions alive. Most of the other diners were older than us (we are late 40's) so when they get too old, who will take their place?

Petey's is a supper club of the past, still needed and appreciated today with an old world dining experience unique and still appreciated. Petey's offers excellent grilled steaks, fish, broiled lamp chops to die for and recently I had a whitefish prepared Grecian style with seasonings, lemon and olive oil. All meals come with relish tray plus (for those of you not familiar it is fresh veggies in a silver platter on ice including green onions, olives, carrots, celery, radishes, peppers, as well as small bowls of beets, cucumbers, cottage cheese, macaroni salad and garlic bread}, then with meals you also have your choice of soup, salad, potato and dessert. Not a chain restaurant, but a unique one of a kind, good food, ambiance, reasonably priced. Eat as much or little as you choose. Across the street from Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. All are welcome.

I had the walleye which did look very appetizing when presented. However it was fishy tasting and scales were not all cleaned off. My husband & brother in-law had a T-bone which he couldn't cut with the cheap silverware they give you,not to mention the fatty taste of the steak. My mother-in-law had chicken which was very greasy. STAY AWAY

What a great place for dinner. The vegetable tray each table gets at the beginning, when you sit down is awesome. The food is wonderful!
