We had to go to Chicago at the last minute and be near family in Winnetka and Northbrook. This hotel was very convenient for us. Room was great as was the restaurant. We sat and talked in the lobby bar and the service was great.

I chose this hotel for several reasons: It's a Marriott and I've come to appreciate the consistency of their customer service; it is close to the ACCP's conference center; it is close to Chicago's Botanic Garden; it has a free shuttle; and it is an easy forty minute train ride from Downtown. There is also a car rental place on site, and a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.

My expectations were met and in some cases exceeded. Customer service was excellent. One member of the team who stands out is Oscar. We had called a cab company from our room and were told the wait time was an hour, so we decided to go downstairs to see if a staff member had better success in getting a cab for us. I spotted Oscar near the front desk and asked if he could get a cab for us to a sushi restaurant we wanted to go to. He said sure, he could call a cab for us, but he could also take us personally if we liked. He took us and gave us his card so we could call when we wanted to head back to the hotel. He is a terrific ambassador for the hotel and the Marriott name, polite, gentle, knowledgeable.

The Chicago Botanic Gardens are a must see if you're staying here. Such a lovely peaceful interlude from big city noise and conferences. Take the time to stroll through and smell the flowers. If you don't want to walk, take the hotel shuttle. It's free that way, as the only cost is car parking at the Garden.

There is a small airy restaurant behind the bar in the hotel, where you can get a good variety of meals, anything from salad bowls to steak, salmon or a host of delicious pizzas, and all reasonably priced. Walk through a doorway just off the lobby, and you're in Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Their food is consistently outstanding but the prices are steeper than in the hotel's restaurant.

Dear MHCSB,
Thank you for the very thorough review and kind comments. I agree that the hotel is in an excellent location, in fact, I was just at the Botanic Gardens yesterday for several hours. It is indeed a world class facility and we are lucky to be right next door to it.
Oscar took me over in our shuttle also, by the way, and I will make a point of sharing your praise with him. He is one of our best!
I hope you have the opportunity to visit us again...
Kind regards,

We stay here for my husband's work. the location is great (starbucks within walking distance) and close to freeways and cute cafe's, etc. Not really a place for tourists wanting to visit Chicago. It's a ways to downtown so you'd still need a car/taxi to train or the city life or to get to local malls, etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the decor is a trip! I love it!

But my biggest issue is that all the hotels now are trying to be eco-friendly and yet for the past 3 hours I have listened and watched 3 workers leaf blow the entire parking lot with gas powered machines. It seems a little out of line with the hotel chain's mission to be eco friendly. I hope the manager will work with the contractor to find a better solution that is true to the hotel chain's mission.

Room Tip: sign up for Marriott rewards to get free wifi. otherwise it's $9.95 a day :(

Dear Jilly_J_Bean,
Thank you for the positive remarks about our property and staff! I have also taken to heart your comment about the landscaping crew and have asked them to look into alternate methods of cleaning up our large parking lot areas.
I'm happy to learn that you are a repeat guest and hope you return soon!

This hotel is very convenient to addresses on the North Shore of Chicago. Priced very reasonably for a graduation weekend. Very nice beds and rooms, has a Ruth's Chris on site, nice gym. Renovations are currently happening, will be a very nice hotel once finished.

Dear docmom3460,
Thank you for your kind comments! I am pleased to report that our total hotel renovations were actually completed late last year. During your stay, we were doing some necessary repairs on the lower meeting room wallpaper and also may have been sealing some of the brick exterior wall areas.
As homeowners surely know, there are always projects that need doing, but we try to minimize any impact to our guests.
I hope you come back and visit us again soon!

We have stayed at the hotel many times while visiting family in neighboring towns. It has recently been redecorated. The rooms are comfortable and recently redecorated. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is an exercise room, an indoor pool and a comfortable breakfast room. For those inclined, there is a bar and restaurant. It is commutable to Chicago as well.

We decided to stay a little bit outside of the city on our latest trip to Chicago because of super high hotel prices downtown and found this hotel to have a very reasonable price and the 20 minute drive into the city was very do-able. Northbrook also has a stop on the Metra line which is very convenient should one want to take the train downtown instead. As far as the hotel room itself goes, it was clean and comfortable, but not really anything above and beyond that. The hot tub in the pool area is tiny and can only accommodate three people (per the sign posted) at a time so we had to wait around for people to leave to get into it. The free parking and free shuttle were nice and a nice change from downtown Chicago hotels in this price range. Requests put into the on-line reservation form are seemingly ignored so I would recommend calling ahead if you have a special request (we had requested a high floor and a king bed, we were put in a room on a low floor with two double beds right by the elevator; were told that was the only option left when we checked in, which was around 11:30 pm). The TV was not working properly upon our arrival but they were very quick to fix it when we went out for breakfast the next morning. We would probably not stay here again if downtown hotels are readily available but it is decent in a pinch.

Dear Jen C,
I appreciate that you took some time to share a few details of your stay here at the Renaissance. I apologize that your room request was not followed up on prior to your arrival, this should have been caught when we received your reservation.
Although downtown Chicago is a great destination, we do have a considerable number of attractions right near the hotel. I hope that you choose to spend some time on the North Shore and explore the Botanic Gardens and Ravinia Music Festival next time you are in the area!

This hotel is just a run-of-the-mill mid-level hotel. The lobby is nice, but the rooms are average. There is quite a bit of road noise even in the 6th floor. Could just be the side our room was facing, but it was pretty loud. In addition, the air conditioning units are extremely loud. Probably the loudest I've ever heard in a hotel. Bring a noise maker!

Dear uncvic,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your recent stay with us.
While light sleepers may be sensitive to traffic sounds from surrounding roads, it is not a common complaint that we hear now that our double pane windows have been installed. The West facing rooms do not have any traffic, so may be a better choice in the future.
I have asked our Maintenance department to double check all A/C units, as yours must have had a loose part or an uneven fan blade. I do wish you had reported it while you were here, as I'm sure it was an easy fix.
Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention.
