about 10.000 years ago the mountains collapsed and divided the fjord in 2 parts. Rocks as big as a house came down and now you have to opportunity to walk in between....
Great view and the drive up there from Stavanger give you a good view of Norway in general. Nice rivers, mountain views.
Stop before or after your drive up at Birkedalstunet, for some local food and visit the giftshop (I guess more a woman thing) In the same area there is Månafossen a 92 meter high waterfall or drive on to Sirdal, the skiing area or even further to Kjerag or beyond to Lysebotn and experience the 30 hairpin road....
