“good bar-tending!”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

we were very happy with the bar-tending, they made us feel welcome. I would recommend that every body that passes the pub will visit it, the boy behind the counter was very experienced with people's orders.

Room Tip: pay ben more money please! he's a good guy!

We stayed overnight at the Gun, having chanced upon it on our travels around England and I am so glad we found this little gem in the beautiful Northumberland countryside. The pub is small but really friendly, no standoffish locals here. The room we were given was clean and extremely comfortable with a lovely king size bed. We had dinner in the pub dining room and just caught the magnificent view before it grew dark. The food was lovely, home cooked fare at its best, a tender steak and a pasta chicken dish were the dishes I would recommend washed down with a nice house red for me and a pint of real ale for my other half. Breakfast proved enough to keep us going until well into the afternoon. We really enjoyed our stay at the Gun, nothing was too much trouble for Liz and Mick. WE WILL BE BACK SOON.

We stopped here for Sunday carvery lunch while driving down from Edinburgh to York. I have to say we weren't expecting a lot from this small village pub but were pleasantly surprised. The pork roast we had was very good, and the price was reasonable. The main room of the pub had a slightly better atmosphere but it was full so we took lunch in the B&B's dining area, and I have to say, the view out the window was just lovely. I would recommend it.

During our recent visit to the Kielder area (party of 7), we decided to dine at this pub last week based upon previous reviews posted on this website. We are beginning to wonder if it is the same pub that we dined at!!??!!

Although the staff were very welcoming and most pleasant, with prompt service, the 2 course meals ordered were unbelievably sub standard for the price. Everything we ordered during the 2 courses was straight out of the freezer (including the steaks and Iceland standard lasagne) and served lukewarm. Only the chips were home made. Our steaks were not served as ordered ie medium and rare, but all came extremely well done and looked as if they had been boiled. They appeared to have been microwaved then finished off on a grill for authenticity! The lasagne resembled a frozen Findus meal which was lacked flavour and also served lukewarm. The battered fish was overcooked and more batter than fish. The lamb shank was about the best, but was served with chips and peas (as was everything else). The dining room where we were seated was very very basic with plastic fake Tudor cladding on the walls! In addition, there was no escape from the extremely loud jukebox music blaring out from the bar.

All in all, the staff were very pleasant and the service very prompt, however the food and setting was more akin to a factory canteen! My advice is DON'T DINE HERE!

We would definitely be

Great hosts, good food, excellent value.
We booked in expecting a room in the pub, but were taken to a type of granny flat a hundred yards away with double bed, seating area and wet room. Very clean, warm, cosy and quiet and we would definitely try to get this room when we next stay at the Gun.
We ate dinner and breakfast in the pub and were very impressed by the hosting and customer service skills of Liz & Mick.
Liz is an excellent cook and I had one of the best cooked and tastiest Sirloin steaks that I have enjoyed in a long time.
The beer is well kept and prices for food and drink are very reasonable, room rates are good value for money.
Overall a great place to stay.

I have been keen to try out the fare at The Gun Inn for a while. We were not disappointed. The establishment staff and customers were extremely welcoming. We had a great meal, good banter and excellent hospitality.
The bar was welcoming, before and after the meal. A truly excellent experience and one we shall do again.

Thanks to Mick and Liz from UsWebbs4. (Kielder)

My Father and I dined here last Saturday and Sunday evening whilst staying at a local B+B who did not do evening meals. The staff/locals/food/service were all of a high standard. Two three course meals, plus drinks, for a shade over £40. Not ping meals either. Geordie hospitality at its very best.
