“Excellent neighborhood establishment”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We were greeted with the general manager and a wonderful waiter. The food is very good and the atmosphere is fun. Very enthusiastic bar with a mature age group of 40-70. The pork chop is amazing in size and flavor. Salmon was farm fed so we did not order it. The halibut special was wonderful; flaky and fresh. This restaurant is a Naperville neighbor favorite.

“Good, but one visit will suffice for me”
Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

Mad Men era New England atmosphere and focus on seafood as expected...Selection was ok and prices were about what you would expect, but the portion sizes for the fish special was less than Weight Watchers. Be sure to ask for your bread. I missed that tidbit in the menu and as a result went without. The clam chowder was East coast worthy though and the service was delivered in a truly professional team focused way.

“Not worth it”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

I had high hopes because of what people who went to the downtown Hugo's told me and the Tripadvisor reviews. The atmosphere was nice, but the service was lousy. We actually waited over 1 hour for our meals - we looked around and nobody was left in the restaurant - so why the delay. My wine was served in a glass with crud around the rim, some of which wound up in the wine. They tried to pass it off as "sediment", As a wine lover, I know what sediment is and this was not it. The food was just "OK" and everyone of the 6 of us left disappointed. No return visit is in the future for Hugo's

“Just ok”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

I have never been over the top impressed with Hugo’s, it seems that each time I eat there the food is so-so. On weekends, the restaurant is so crowded the noise level is deafening, I would recommend going early. For the price (it is definitely a $$$) I have had better seafood elsewhere. The crabcakes are pretty good, the sides are definitely huge and need to be shared (even the asparagus) as well as the desserts.

“Good food, good service, fresh seafood”
Reviewed April 15, 2013 via mobile

Had reservations on a very busy Friday night. We arrived a few minutes early and didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Reservations are a must.
We ordered 2 wedge salads for the 4 of us and the kitchen split them for us. Nice touch. Wish more would do that. When a salad is that large and clearly more than one can eat, it seems a reasonable request. We had a variety of entrees - crab stuffed shrimp, halibut, seared tuna and a petite filet mignon. All very good. Sides were tasty as well.
Would definitely go back.
