Best Western Morton Grove Inn
Ranked #1 of 2 Hotels in Morton Grove
Reviewed May 25, 2012

My wife and I along with our four month old daughter were on vacation in Chicago and after plentiful research on available hotels during our stay we opted for this location simply due to the great rates along with several reviews posted here on TripAdvisor.
The hotel: It's an Inn. It's a long, 2 storey building with access to the rooms independently from the outside. The back of the property peers over residential fences into back yards. Mildly eerie at night but we still felt fairly safe. Walking distance to the METRA station, short drive to the CTA yellow line.
We arrived relatively late on a Thursday evening and the front desk attendant was absolutely friendly but seemed quite disorganized.
Since it was late and our infant was already well passed bed time, we just wanted to get to our room and relax. As we put our keycard into the slot and opened the door, the door stopped due to the door latch being pulled over. All of a sudden a light turned on and I quickly shut the door - SOMEONE WAS ALREADY IN THIS ROOM SLEEPING! We started walking away but the door opened and a man standing in his boxer shorts asked what we were doing. We apologized in embarrassment and returned to the front desk. The attendent was very apologetic and only offered two bottles of water for the troubles... Ooookay. Let's just say I kept our door double locked every night after this - and hid all valuables as best I could.
The room is adequate. It's clean, mildly musty but nothing that we worried about; A fair amount of room and the bathroom (although a weird layout) was sufficient (but what's with the bathtub?? It had to be the smallest one I've ever seen). The marble touches show signs that they've upgraded at least something.
Another thing that could've made things nicer would've been to at least get a 'hello' from the cleaning staff. They seemed very indifferent to guests - and not just us.
The breakfast area each morning was a very good addition: especially the 'pancake printer'. You HAVE to see this thing - too cool.
We were told by a cabbie that this is in a good neighborhood and although the first impressions were very poor, we ended up extending our stay an additional night after all.
TL;DR: Very awkward first impression, would've been nice if the staff were better trained, good breakfast, excellent value: Average Inn.

Room Tip: Any second floor room - the parked vehicles seemed rather close to the front doors of the first floo...

This hotel definitely deserves some positive feedback because I had a fantastic 5 night stay here!
As a brief background, I came to Chicago with three other girls for a short extended weekend trip. Though we drove to the hotel, we weren't keen on driving into downtown Chicago everyday, so we wanted to find a cheap hotel with easy public transportation access.

So first, the LOCATION of this hotel is great. It was easy to find off the highway and the Golf Metra Station was an easy 5-10min walk away and approx. a 45min ride to downtown Chicago. I will complain though, that a stretch of the road does not have street lights, so it can be a little scary to walk alone after dark. However, there is limited parking available at the station, which is free on weekends, so we took advantage of that. There are also numerous restaurants within minutes of the hotel, so food was not a problem.

Speaking of food though, the FREE BREAKFAST at the hotel was pretty awesome. In addition to the basic bagels, pastries, yogurt, spreads, etc. they had hot sausages and pre-made eggs (both microwaved) AND a pancake maker that quite literally steamrolled the cutest little english muffin sized pancakes out on demand. You can basically make your own sausage & egg (minus processed cheese) McMuffins/McGriddles every morning. Everything was well stocked and they kindly brought out more fresh fruit upon request. AND there's a great coffee/cappuccino/hot chocolate machine in the front lobby that's available around the clock. Needless to say, we were very happy with this service. The actual breakfast area was pretty cramped, but the four of us managed to comfortably eat at a table every morning.

On to the actual ROOM: the room was big and clean, the beds and pillows were comfy, towels were clean - no complaints. There was a good sized fridge for us to keep our left over pizza, though we had to go to the lobby to microwave it since there was no microwave in our room. The best part was that the washroom was HUGE and with four girls, that's pretty amazing. I had no problems with the pressure or temperature of the water; as a matter of fact, the water at the hotel was hotter than at my student housing back home. We didn't hear noise from neighbouring rooms, or from outside, though we requested to be on the second floor. The only problem that I had was the heater/fan was loud throughout the night, but not disruptive enough to make a formal complaint about. Also, the room cards apparently demagnetize everytime they're placed close to other electronic devices, so no matter how we tried to store them, we basically had to ask the front desk staff to reactivate our cards every night. Simple, painless process, especially since the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

Overall, this hotel is an amazing value for its convenient location and quality of stay and service!

This is great. It is located about 10-15 minutes outside of downtown chicago. The hotel was nothing special but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The staff was really on top it and very nice, they even recommended a delicious pizza spot. Whenever we seen a staff member they always asked us how was our stay, how was everything going, and if we needed help with anything. They didn't have a luggage cart but the front desk person offered to help with the luggage. The bathroom marble was very nice. We booked the room with the couch so we could also have the fridge and microwave, we didn't know the couch was a sofa bed which is nice if you have 3 people or children, it was about a twin size bed. This is not a 5 star hotel but for outside of chicago is great for the price. A couple of things, my mother stayed in the room right next to my husband and me and she said she could hear us talking not what we were saying but she could tell we were talking. Also the water doesn't get hot in the middle of the night and early morning and it wasn't just my room the same thing happened in my mother's room, even though I let the sink run for 11 minutes the water would not get cold. The heater sporadically starts blowing out cold air. The cleaning man cleaned my mother's room even though she had the do not disturb sign on the door knob, when questioned about it as he was coming out of her room he told her she didn't have it on the door! she was slightly upset. But for the most part this was a great hotel with great service.

Room Tip: If you need a fridge and microwave get the room with the sofa!!!

This place is a gussied up strip motel, but when they put in the granite bathrooms, they forgot the soundproofing. We were here for 2 nights and got only a few hours sleep each night; first night the 3 guys in the next room got up at 5:30 a.m. and talked, argued and showered LOUDLY, with the radio on full volume for 90 minutes and we could hear every single sound through the paper-thin walls. Second night it started to rain heavily, so the sound of every car going by on the busy 30 feet from the beds was magnified - WHOOSH! WHOOSH! all night long. There's just a single pane window with no weatherstripping and a gap in the doorframe so wide you can see daylight around the door - great for letting in noise!

Bathroom - only tepid water for first 5 minutes of shower, then scalding hot water. Sink water never got more than tepid.

Desk staff - well, at check-in she screwed up so badly that I had to call my credit card company right then to straighten out what she had done - which was try to put through the room charges 3 times in less than a minute, which froze my card.

Breakfast - when are those vile little styrofoam bowls and cups going to be banned? Anything you eat from one tastes like plastic, an otherwise decent breakfast selection was ruined by the taste of styrofoam. No decent tea or hot chocolate available, just coffee.

I have spent one night in this hotel in September 2011. It was the worst hotel I have seen for years. Smell was "heavy", and I had to fight with bugs during the night. Definitely not recommended.

We stayed at this hotel while we visited Chicago over the summer. The location of this hotel in relation to the Metra train was one main reason we chose this hotel, aside from the price as well. The hotel is within walking distance of the Golf Metra on the Fox Lake line, and the train ride into the city was approx 30 minutes or so. Having never visited the Chicago area, using the Metra train was the way to go.

Room was nothing special but was very good for the price. No frills just the basics. Didn't really spend too much time in the room or at the hotel itself but it was very adequate for our vacation needs. Front desk staff was very helpful in locating a rental car company when we found out the cars were all sold out at Union Station.

Would definitely stay here again if visiting the Chicago area.
