“Is this the best pub in Ireland??”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

The Thatch offers such a wide variation of options! If you are in before 7 pm you can have choice from the bar menu which offers a mixed grill, fish, pork, gammon and chicken plus a range of desserts. Wines from the off licence are charged with a £2 corkage which means you can drink the best of the selection for half the price of anywhere else. Food in the main restaurant is good but the same as the bar menu only more expensive. The bar menu is sufficient for anyone and the staff are excellent, Brian Montgomery is a genial host but not in sight often. i think this is a great pub offering great value for money, we had 4 mains, 1 sweet, an Irish coffee, a bottle of wine (good bottle too) 2 rounds of drinks including one with friends and were under £90. All in all a great night which we will repeat many times. Included in this is the company of Irish international hockey and rugby players indeed the latter being a former British Lion so where else would you get such an eclectic mix?? The Thatch the best pub in Ireland!!

“Food let down by service”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

The Staff at The Thatch were let down to-day by poor organisation and lack of planning. There was one member of staff expected to take care of the bar, to take all orders for food and to deal with customers settling bills. When we were queuing to give our order, a total of two separate couples who arrived after us at the queue had their food orders taken and two other parties comprising 5 people in total, also after us, had drinks orders taken and served before we were attended to. This was mostly down to the member of staff trying to deal with a chaotic situation and trying to do too many things at once. She was left out to dry. If, as it seemed, the establishment was not expecting the number of customers, more staff should have been brought in or redeployed as needed. The management took their eye off the ball. It will be a while before we return, and we will check and see if they are busy, because it seems on today's experience, they cannot deal with the number of tables that are in the restaurant.

“Favourite pub”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

We are regular visitors in the thatch and enjoy it very much, but must say that more recently the staffing has improved due to new member of staff called Andy, he goes out of his way to be helpful, good fun, keeps a close eye on the tables and even pours and tops up your wine, great personality and we look forward to our evenings even more now. Keep up the good work Andy! It's not just our opinion lots of people agree. Best pub!!!!!!

“AVOID”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

Firstly we were greeted by a very friendly waitress who showed us to our
table and chatted like we were old friends, lovely I thought, NO,that was as
good as it got.
We were told that the set lunch finished at 3pm (4.15PM),although it was still in the menu.
Our main course of chicken and chorizo with pasta was very poor and although
hot ,the sauce made it more of a thick soup.
After watching four groups led to their tables and fifteen minutes passing we were eventually approached to be told if we were finished we could pay at the bar.
Overall,if it wasnt for the pleasant waitress I would rate this one instead of two out of five.

“Saturday Dinner”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

The Thatch is a lovely pub with a lot of character and atmosphere, steeped in history. We ate from the Credit Crunch menu which appeared good value but the food was no more than average. My wifes burger was very thin and not very tasty, my pork chops were also wafer thin and overcooked. Great place for a drink but no more.
