Of the places we stayed in the Solomons, Matikuri is the one that we enjoyed the most. There is a great combination of environment, design, and people that makes this place very comfortable and enjoyable.
They rooms are simple/rustic/minimal, but in a way that makes you feel comfortable, remote and relaxed. Night lighting is by kerosene lamp (bring a torch too), which adds to the appeal (in my opinion).
The main house/deck is big, spacious and overlooking the lagoon and other islands. It's the perfect place for meals, and to kick back to ready or play card games, etc. Attached is the boat deck/jetty that is perfect for diving into the clear water, or doing an assortment of flips. Attention has been paid to suggestions and tips from travelers over the years to create a place that ticks the boxes for a fantastic holiday home - it seems to be a 2nd/holiday home for a lot of repeat visitors.
Benjamin makes boats available for snorkelling, village tours, etc etc. He makes sure that things are organised and you get to see the things you'd like.
Food is great - simple home cooked stuff that is delicious.
The people (a big extended family) are great fun! Benjamin, Ruben, Maisie, Charles, Teddy, Lencia, and the kids make you feel like part of the family.
We hope to return one day!
*Note: At the time of writing there is no internet connection at Matikuri, so don't book through their website. It was created without the owners knowledge, and they have no knowledge about any reservations made there. It is best to call Benjamin direct. The ph number on their site is accurate.
