I don't think I've ever felt more at home that at the Indigo Cottage. I didn't want to leave. There where so many things that I enjoyed:
- The warmth of the wood palette expressed on the interior and exterior
- The artistic designed the wood spiral staircase, headboard, end tables, bathroom countertop, and dining table.
- The views from the bed towards the tree top forest
- The simple and elegant feel of the kitchenette; seemed like it was IKEA inspired and contemporary but fit very nicely with the context.
- The undulating form of the straw bale stucco walls in the light glow of the evening light.
- and finally the natural feel of the the spaces.

I felt that our stay was more of an experience than just a place to rest for the evening. It's an experience I'd like to take home with me or come back frequently to visit and recharge at the makanda inn.

Room Tip: The views from the "Indigo Cottage" where really great...I felt like I was in the tree ho...

We had a great time at the Makanda Inn! We arranged a reunion with several of our friends who all graduated from SIU. The Inn is the perfect location to meet with friends and reminisce. We hiked in Shawnee National Forest and sat around a campfire at night. The cottages were amazing! The woodwork and ambiance are beautiful and unique. Although the Inn is located near the wine trail we didn't get a chance to sample the wineries. We will definitely be back! Next time we will make a trip to the wineries!

We had a great time this past weekend at the Makanda Inn. First off we needed to change our reservation due to weather (we just pushed it back a day) and the innkeeper allowed us to do so without a charge. We stayed in the Indigo Cottage, which was recently opened in April. What a unique place to stay! If you are looking to relax in nature away from it all, I highly recommend one of their new cottages. FYI the internet does not work in the room and there is no TV…also our cell service did not work…we were really off the grid. We did not really prepared for this, but it was a welcomed change of pace (ie bring a book or some games to play). There is internet in the main house as well a TV in the common area. If you looking for a nice place to stay near the wineries, university, and hiking – this is a great choice.

I didn't want to leave the property!!! Calm, Peaceful, Clean, Comfortable, Beautiful.....I can't wait to go back a stay at one of the newly opened cottages. In July we snuck in to have a peek at one and OH WOW, the woodwork! This place is magical. Janelle was a very laid back welcoming host, and the Breakfast, she cooked, was very delish. GREAT coffee too.

Room Tip: EVERY room is a good room!

From our wonderful host Celeste, to the unique bedroom and the surrounding area, this is definitely a place we will come back to on our next southern Illinois trip. Great location to the wineries and the breakfast was terrific. Love chit chatting with Celeste over wine and cheese on our last night!

What a find! The accommodations are amazing! Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Celeste was extremely nice and a great host. The breakfasts were wonderful! Our first day was a delicious quiche with nectarines and incredible breakfast potatoes. The next day was cantaloupe with cinnamon french toast and bacon. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The location is perfect as it is centrally located in the middle of the Shawnee Wine Trail. In addition, it is next to Giant City State Park which has excellent hiking trails. I would instantly recommend this place for anyone looking to get away from the daily grind and relax. I cannot say enough good things and look forward to our next stay!

Stayed in a brand-new 2 bedroom 2 bathroom cabin/cottage at the Inn this weekend with 3 girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. What a great experience! Deep in the woods, QUIET, relaxing, and secluded; complete kitchen and living room separate the bedrooms. Very affordable and hospitable. Innkeeper Celeste makes a terrific quiche, too.

Makanda Boardwalk (minutes away) must be seen to be believed. Convenient to wine trail and Giant City State Park. Loved it! We decided to make this an annual trip!

Room Tip: Cabins have fully-equipped kitchens, so bring groceries and settle in!
