“Arboretum....need to go there.”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Great place to go in winter or summer. Kids enjoy it, activities for them and adults. Check their schedule, as sometimes they will have concerts.

“Great place for trees.”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Absolutely beautiful piece of land in a western suburb of Chicago, especially in the spring and fall when the colors of trees are at their best. You can drive or walk and enjoy the great outdoors. There are many groves of trees and each are identified by name, so it's an educational place also. The best tree experts are found here.

“Too Expensive, Even For Druids”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

I love trees. If I were in the market for a new religion, I would seriously consider becoming a Druid and worship trees. But for the $12 admission fee ($8 on Wednesdays), even I have second thoughts about visiting the Arboretum.
Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to love here. The one-way drive around the Arboretum is lovely, and there are lots of pull offs so that you can let other cars pass, and then inch along in complete peace. You don't even have to get out of the car or walk all that far if you choose. The pathways are beautiful and well-maintained, covered with wood chips, so your shoes won't get muddy. There are lots of benches if you want a break. Fall is gorgeous here, as is springtime with all the flowering bushes and trees. The daffodil glade in the spring is spectacular. If you have a young child or pre-schooler, they will be in heaven when they see the children's garden, and kids could spend a lot of time here without getting bored. The maze is worth a look. A walk through the spruce plot to see the tall and majestic tress is a favorite.
We have been here many times over the years, but it has become just too pricy. Luckily, admission is free on Christmas, so we have visited two out of the last three years; otherwise it would have cost our family of five a whopping $60! If you are a nature lover and are in the western suburbs and don't care about cost, the Arboretum is worth a visit. If you just want to go for a walk in the woods, go to one of the local forest preserves for the same experience without spending any money.

“Great year round outdoor getaway.”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

You can go year round to the Morton Arboretum. You can snowshoe in the winter or picnic in the summer. A great place to get away from it all and just get in touch with nature right in the middle of the western suburbs.

Everything about the Morton Arboretum is wonderful. I have been going there since I was a little kid. Mostly I cycle their 9 miles of bike path...doesn't sound like much but they've got some steep hills...hard to climb, fun to go down. The gift shop is amazing with lots of "natural" types of gifts, for example, bird houses, books, etc. The Gingko is their restaurant, mostly high-end cafeteria food. Summer concerts and walking plays are excellent--in fact, if you've never gone on a walking play (e.g., Tom Sawyer), it's a MUST DO. Finally, the walking paths are delightful, full of flora and fauna. You can even get a glimps of Joy Morton's house. In the winter you can bring your xcountry skiis or snowshoes or rent either and ski their paths. I highly recommend a visit to the Morton Arboretum. Oh,
