Hillview Haven Estate
Ranked #1 of 2 Baltimore B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 1, 2012

We recently stayed for a weekend at Hillview Haven with another couple. Our stay included breakfast and dinner both days. This is the first time we have had dinner at a B&B and it was wonderfully prepared by our host Peter. We enjoyed eating out on the terrace overlooking the beautiful farmland leading down to the lake. Our breakfasts on the terrace were also nice and Irene’s eggs-benny was fabulous! We stayed in the British room and our stay there was made even more special because of the stories Irene shared with us about her inspiration for the room.

There is a lot to do in this area. We brought a boat with us and launched it at the nearby boat launch and went down the lake to Rhino’s for lunch (fairly good food). We also visited the Indian craft stores, visited the town of Cobourg and stopped in some shops along the way. Cobourg has a nice theatre but nothing interesting playing the weekend we stayed. I do suggest going to the Oasis Restaurant for lunch. Try to get a spot on the Patio if its nice enough. Don’t have a margarita though (teenage bartenders don’t know how to make a REAL margarita! Otherwise the food was good.

In the end we were happy that we did not over plan our trip (booking dinner and theatre tickets) because the highlight of our stay at Hillview Haven was our hosts Irene and Peter. We were immediately drawn in by them. It really felt like we were visiting our close friends! We had an amazing time sitting on the terrace chatting with them and learning about their search for their dream B&B property. We could have talked with them for hours, such wonderful stories and truly great people. My only complaint about my stay is that I wish Peter and Irene could have joined us as dinner companions! But with all the serving and cooking going on that might have been a challenge.

We fell in love with Hillview Haven because of accommodations, food, and wonderful ambiance. But meeting Irene and Peter made our weekend stay one that was exceptional!

Room Tip: We stayed in the British room overlooking the lake. Our friends stayed in the African room with the...

We stayed here this past weekend with another couple (last weekend in July, 2012) and had a fantastic time. We have stayed in dozens and dozens of B&B over the past bunch of years, and I have to say this is the best stay we have ever had.

The house is beautiful, the view spectacular, and Irene and Peter are like good friends in how they ensure that your stay is simply perfect. We stayed in the British room, which had a beautiful view over their 40 acres (over the fields and their horses, with a superb view of the sunset and the lake).

The meals were delicious and the ambience congenial. The other guests that were with us, joined us on the beautiful porch/deck for the sunset and we all talked with each other until late at night.

We didn't go in the pool, simply because we were out during the day (fishing and browsing/shopping), and were too busy socializing before, during and after dinner, until late at night.

Rice Lake is great for fishing (although we did't have great luck on the 1 morning we were out), and there are lots of small towns and villages around to drive to for those shopping trips for some unique finds (antiques, indian reserve, etc)

We will definitely make this a recurring visit, and can't wait to return!

Room Tip: The british room has a beautiful view of the lake - with a jacuzzi tub you can sit in the watch it.

Wow, a very pleasant surprise that there were no surprises. My husband and I wanted to get away for two days and relax. We got to meet wonderful people, eat awesome food and relax. Peter and Irene made us truly feel like family and were wonderful in sharing their home, property and I even got to enjoy helping to fed the horses. This B&B is definitely a guest home and has the unique advantage of private bathrooms. We will definitely return. Don't miss out on the addition of a wonderfully prepared dinner.

Room Tip: We stayed in the British room, it was a little small but very comfortable. It definitely meet our n...

We stayed at Hillview Haven for one weekend and we had such a great time - regret not staying longer! They asked us in advance our food preferances and what rooms we want -African, British, Asian.
Upon our arrival, they were so welcoming and friendly. We had the freedom to do what we choose - pool, enjoy the view, see their horses, etc. It was a beautiful and relaxing place - more than what we expected. Mihai and Georgiana

Needing a well earned break, we checked the B & B websites in the Coberg/Peterboro area, and based on the facility itself together with the promise of good food, we booked a 2 night stay at Hillview Haven. Upon arrival we were met with a friendly greeting from our hosts Peter and Irene and we never looked back from there. Everything was above and beyond our expectations. The African room was beautiful, Peter is a master chef, and most importantly, Irenes friendly caring service made us feel more like family than paying guests. We were so impressed we stayed for an extra 2 nights!! Peter went out of his way to prepare great meals that he knew we would enjoy, and Irene just couldnt do enough to please us in every way. We had a wonderful stay ourselves and when reading the guest book it was obvious that many others before us felt the same way. We hope to see Peter & Irene again in September and we strongly recommend others to go and enjoy the experience themselves. Rick & Donna. Waterloo, Ont.

Room Tip: All four themed rooms are unique in their own way. All have beautiful decor and furnishings. The A...

Hillview Haven is the perfect country getaway with a stunning hilltop view of Rice Lake! The house is immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. My husband and I spent two nights in the African Room and dreamt of safari adventures in our four poster bed. Peter and Irene were fantastic hosts! By the time we left it felt as if we were leaving a friend's home. The meals, with a little british twist, were delicious, especially for my husband who is a British expat. As an avid swimmer the pool at Hillview Haven was heavenly and even it has an amazing view of the Lake. We highly recommend a trip to Hillview Haven! We will certainly be returning with friends and family!

We visited Peter and Irene after a wedding over the Canada day holiday weekend. We had a wonderful and relaxing time at their place, their conversation is engaging and friendly and the rooms are very comfortable and fun. The biggest surprise was the very high quality of the food at Hillview, my wife is a vegetarian and often if we book a place that includes meals, she gets poor quality food that is made as an afterthought. Peter took time and care to make delicious vegetarian food that was much better than would be expected. Overall this is a fantastic place to spend a couple of days getting away from it all, and I would highly recommend it.
