“A Diamond in the Rough”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

Very good French food without the French prices. Owners Stephane and Masato (Chef) continue serving great food in a very friendly and comfortable environment. Nice bar if only for a drink. Good wine assortment. Escargot to die for. Located in a small strip mall in Lake Zurich. Definitely one of the finest restaurants in the area. You can see more about D & J Bistro on their Facebook page.
We miss the original owner Dominique!

“Disappointment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

We had high expectations and gave this restaurant 4 tries . Disappointment reigns! The French bread is excellent but the rest of the meals went down from there. Today, we ordered 1 1/2 lbs steamed Mussels with wine and herbs. But the broth was watery and tasteless...More than 10 mussels did not open indicating that they were not not fresh. We mentioned this to the server and she did not do anything about it other than saying, "sorry you did not like it". The shrimps in the "D" pasta were ordinary and the scallop was of the "wet" type, not dry as specified. And we tried The French "Nicose"salad in the past and it was fit for a goat!

“Authentic French Bistro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

Great food.and service, whether in the bar or restaurant . I especially love their Cassolette and their foie gras. Treat yourself and friends and try to make one of their special celebration dinners, such as Bastille Day or the annual celebration of the Nouveau Beaujolais release. Great menus and games hi lite the dinners.

“A Local French Treat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

We have been dining at D & Js for years and have always had a great dining experience. The service is top notch and the menu reflects traditional favorites and seasonal offerings. We love the steak tartare and escargot to start. The duck confit and chateaubriand are also favorites. Desserts are always special. Great wine list. Prices are reasonable. Always some great dinner specials. These folks put out a quality dining experience every time. Worth the trip.
