We were staying in Skelwith Bridge for a week and this was the nearest pub/hotel. We appreciate good quality food and are quite prepared to travel for a good meal which was our intention. We ate in the cottage on our first night and called into the bar for a drink. We were extremely impressed with the warm and friendly welcome that we received from the bartender. They had a selection of real ales and the bar was full of people eating bar snacks so we decided to give it a go the following night. We were not disappointed so ate in The Talbot Bar for 4 nights out of 7. Between us we tried quite a few things on the menu with only 1 regret. One of my favourite meals is liver & onions with mash which was on the special board on the first night when we called in for a drink having already eaten. Unfortunately they sold the last portion just before I ordered the following night and it did not reappear during our 4 visits. It's not fine dining but it's damn good pub grub at a reasonable price, good real ales and a pleasant friendly atmosphere.

If your in the area you must stop at this bar, good food, great atmosphere and good beer. The service is very good and the bar staff could not be more helpful and friendly, a definite stop if you are in the area.

Having eaten here on previous visits to Elterwater we decided to return again this year. Yes the food was good and well presented, but we felt generally the menu seemed to lack the variety of previous visits.
