Day two of my Cumbria Way walk saw me settled at this iconic hotel in the heart of British climbing and walking culture. It is always a privilege to stay here and this visit was no exception. I had 'room 3' complete with private bathroom just a few steps away along the hall. Lovely clean room and a very comfortable bed were just what was needed after a long walk-in along the Langdale Valley. I ate in the residents bar on the night of arrival and then breakfast the following morning. Two very adequate meals served by the same very friendly young woman. Nothing spectacular but good basic food, and well up to standard.
