“Home Cooking”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

We went to Maria's Bakery to check out the cake, but ended up eating lunch there. I had spinach and mushroom lasagna which was just like homemade. The quality of ingredients were of a high caliber and the taste was excellent. My wife had an Italian sub and the quality was way above your cookie cutter franchise. The owners and staff were very friendly and efficient. Before we left we purchased some cookies which were also top notch. My only issue is the place is very small and people come in and it seems like you need to hurry and finish. I would have liked to stay a bit longer . Other than that, Please go to Highwood and check out a nice homey spot to have a High Quality meal

“Excellent spot for a quick bite or some bread to take home.”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

You need to get to know Maria's to really appreciate it. Walk in and it seems like a little bakery, walk a little further and you find that they also serve lunch and dinners to eat in or take out. The baked goods are always fresh and the food is always delicious. We found it shortly after moving here during one of the many Highwood festivals where they had a stand and the shop has become a regular stop for baked goods (and a special lunch for myself when I get time away from the kids).

“close your eyes and you think you are in a little trattoria in Italy”
Reviewed January 26, 2012

WOW!
What an amazing little find.
Stopped to check out the bakery and noticed they also served lunch and catered. ASked for dinner and were told just to come before 6 pm.
We came and then we had to come back over and over. Have gone with so many friends now and all of them marvel at this place. It is just unbelievable good.
The home cooked food, and especially the seafood, is like going back to Italy to a little Trattoria in a little back alley. It is fresh, delicious, authentic and just REAL italian food.
Most amazing shrimp risotto ever, the mussels marinara are to die for and we literally cleaned the plates. All the sauce were scooped up with bread and at the end one in our party almost licked the plate...
There is just nothing bad to say about this little joint, except from that it ought to be open loner so that more people can savour the food.
