We had a lovely 'first footing'on New Years Eve. There were lots of nice birds on the ponds at the back of the sand dunes backing onto the beach. The statues are similar to the ones in the Water of Leith in Edinburgh where we live so they made us feel very at home. Some wags had dressed some of the statues up in Xmas jumpers and hats which the kids thought was funny. Thee statues certainly add something to the beach which is already nice. It certainly encouraged us to explore a bit.

This would be better at low tide to see more of the statues.
There is a nice walk along the beach and it is dog friendly.

Visited here for the first time on New Year’s Day, which was chilly but sunny. It was busy with other families and dog walkers but as it’s such a large beach we had plenty of space to ourselves and we were able to get up close and personal with the ‘iron men’. They really are an impressive and thought provoking sight. The beach was relatively clean and despite it being 1st Jan the ice cream van was there much to my son’s delight! We all had wellies on which were definitely needed. My husband, son (aged 4) and I all really enjoyed the afternoon, walking and playing on the beach, paddling at the water’s edge, drawing in the sand with sticks, viewing the iron men and exploring the sand dunes. We will be back again.

Apart from being very cold an windy and despite not finding anywhere warm to sit and have a coffee it was well worth the visit!
The statues are quite spooky and create a unique atmosphere.
I think we managed to see all 100 and with the tide out we managed to see close up.
Overall very impressive.

We missed this last year as the tide times were wrong. This time it was low tide and we enjoyed our visit very much. Luckily the weather was also on our side. It is so atmospheric here.
