The World's Best!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 2, 2013
My husband and I have traveled extensively and still feel that this resort has got to be one of the best out there. We are loyal Four Seasons guests (we were married at the one in Georgetown) and were surprised when our travel agent recommended AK over the neighboring FS. We are so grateful we took her advice and stayed here. From the moment we stepped on the seaplane platform (after a long flight from New York) until we left, everything was fantastic. In fact, I cried as our boat pulled away from the jetty. We spent another 2 weeks traveling after we left and I never again had the same reaction.
We spent 8 nights in an overwater bungalow and were more than impressed with the room. I can't imagine one upgrade that they didn't add! Numerous times they found ways to make our stay memorable and comfortable. They remembered our Anniversary with a lovely gesture and beautiful bed decoration. Our Butler, Naseem, took care of all our dining and spa reservations and did so with professionalism and accuracy. He managed to find my bike every time it went missing and always remembered that we preferred to be driven to dinner.
We ate at each of the restaurants during our time there. Our favorite was Sea, which we ate at twice. Their Wine dinner with the visiting Vintner was exceptional and gave a great opportunity to interact with other guests. We also enjoyed Fire a couple of evenings and were not disappointed. Salt and Manzaro were both fine, but we found the cuisine to be better at the prior two. Chef Piccolini is a delightful gentleman and one should take the opportunity to talk with him as he has many fun culinary stories. Our experience with In-villa dining was fantastic. Our dining attendant, Damey, turned our deck into a romantic and comfortable area during dinner our last night. When we returned to our room after an evening walk, we were blown away. The time and attention given to our dining experience was extraordinary. In addition, the breakfast and lunch staff all go out of their way to anticipate your wants and deliver with kindness and smiles. Maria, Jerry, Michele and countless others greeted us with our juices and Ipads each morning. One breakfast, I was feeling ill and Maria made me a fantastic traditional tea to help soothe my head. The kindness of the staff is incredible. People who complain about the staff being overly attentive are obviously not the kind of travelers who frequent resorts of this caliber. While many resorts are attentive and anticipatory, AK goes beyond that because one can feel the genuine care behind the words and actions.
We did partake in a spa treatment and the facilities are beautiful. The treatment rooms are generously sized and well laid out, affording fantastic views of the ocean and sky. Even the pedicure room had a view! The water sports center was clean and efficient. We did a manta snorkeling trip and were treated to 10 large mantas in the water with us. Our guide, Hussein, made sure each person got a chance to have an up close view of these magical creatures, He was very knowledgeable and even took my hand to lead me closer to where they were coming from. It was as if he could anticipate their moves! Needless to say, all 4 of the adults on our trip had a very memorable morning,
I know that there is much I am leaving out, but some things are best as surprises. We will be returning hopefully in May of 2014, this time with our son. I can't imagine staying anywhere else and look forward to seeing our new friends at AK.

Living and travelling as a European since over 30 years in the Indian Oceans islands and its luxury high end hotels, I did not expect another top up for me and my family.
The four or five restaurants offer the “local and the world’s best at its best”. The staff in all the restaurants and bars are so overwhelming friendly, helpful and attentive.
A special star and bravo has to go to the breakfast buffet ! ( open till 11 am). For example, I never seen a GM or the Chef in a 5-star hotel so often presented and helpful. - Not to mention the respectful and charming gestures to some guests to carry their plate to the table or removing empty ones.
Going through the islands natural paths you never see a gardener trimming grass or cutting on trees or bushes. Nature has been left alone even on the various snow-white beaches. – Well done – not done.
We had 5 nights in the over-water-villa and 5 nights in the beach villa. Till now we are not sure which we liked best. All of those villas are designed and decorated with the best materials and exquisite taste.
The Anantara Kihavah Villas are indeed on our list for coming back.

Room tip: sorry, difficult to add as we did not located negative sites

It's one of most beautiful hotels in Maldives. The hotel is still new to the Maldives but because of its location, beauty, white sand beach, great offers on Restaurants and huge Pool Villas, it becomes well-known now.

The beach Pool Villa and Over-Water Pool Villa are both huge and lovely in design and decoration.

There are five restaurants for you to choose and A Must Try Restaurant is the under water restaurant where you sit in a room under water with the view of variety of fish. The restaurant offers a 4-course menu with wine pairing. The food is delicious and it's worthwhile as a once in a life time experience.

The breakfast and lunch buffet are great with a good quality and variety of choices. What I love the Most is the Pizza at lunch buffet. It tastes really good Than I expected.

Especially, the design of the breakfast area is so beautiful and I love how they selected the furniture. Everything matchs just so right for the place.

The main pool area is wonderful and the pool size is really wide and long. As the hotel has approx 70 villas, even when the hotel is at its high occupancy, you won't feel disturb by other guests as there are many choices in restaurants and activities.

The staffs are friendly and polite. We did enjoy the stay very much. Maldives itself is already a paradise but if you choose to stay at the right hotel, you will know how to enjoy and spend your time on the real paradise.

Anantara is diffinitely one of my favorites hotels in the Maldives.

Room tip: Beach Pool Villa or Over-Water Pool Villa are both nice and have different charm. If you like to spend time on the beach more, then choose the beach villa. But if you just wake up and jump into the water right away, go to Over-water Villa... Or perhaps combine your stay? 3 nights in the beach villa and the other 3 nights on Over-water villa? Why not...

I did a lot of research to choose a resort to spend our honeymoon. After reading the Tripadvisor comments and some suggestions by friends, we decided to go to Anantara Kihavah. At the Male' airport we were welcomed by very helpful airport staff who quickly took us to the Anantara sea plane lounge in a luxury limousine! That was completely beyond my expectation. I never expected a limousine in a small island airport. The Anantara seaplane lounge was just as comforting as the welcoming staff. It was nicely decorated with beautiful artwork and modern furniture. Coffee, tea, juice, fresh fruits and pastries were provided in the lounge. The best part is you have free Wifi internet in the lounge itself which is equipped with iPads and iMacs.
We truly enjoyed the 30 minute sea plane ride from Male' airport to the resort, watching the beautiful islands of the Maldives from the sky. At the resort jetty, we were welcomed by the General Manager and many other staff. We were quickly escorted from the jetty to our villa by our villa host who prepared a fresh welcome drink in front of us in our beautiful villa. After a short but perfect room orientation the villa host inquired about our dining plans for the day and helped us book the Italian restaurant for lunch. An itinerary of activities was prepared for us by our Villa Host.
We stayed in an over water pool villa which is very spacious with a stunning glass bottom bath tub! The pool is large and the ocean view is amazing while you relax on the large swing day bed in your sun deck. Upon arrival our bed was nicely decorated for honeymoon. The romantic ritual bath prepared by our housekeeper (sorry I could not remember the name) was so romantic!
The selection of breakfast is probably the best you can get in a five star resort. There are items from every corner of the world. The staff at the breakfast restaurant, plates are so warm and friendly. They recognize our preferences from the first day and we never had to repeat our preferences throughout our stay.
We dined in all the restaurants which includes Fire, the Japanese restaurant, Salt the Asian restaurant and of course the most unique Sea, the underwater restaurant. We had lunch in the Sea restaurant and were lucky to sea turtles! Don’t forget to take a romantic beach dinner, the food and decoration is awesome!!
All the staff at Anantara Kihavah are friendly and very helpful. They have created a homely environment where every guest feels like at home. Unlike some of the comments mentioned in some reviews here, I have experienced no issues or any inconveniences during my stay. Each staff went out of their way to fulfill our needs. The food in all restaurants are great. The breakfast selection i s the best I have seen so far in entire life, and I am a very well-travelled around the world. I have already booked my next trip to Kihavah!

Room tip: Villas far away between 215 - 220 has great sunset view

The hotel is very luxury. 40 minutes by seaplane from Male. The island is about 300x400 metres. Very good breakfast. Very tasty food in restaurants, but high prices. Excellent service and personal. Respect for russian-speaking guide Faruh from Uzbekistan, he's very friendly, sociable and with a sense of humour!

Having stayed in 10+ 5 star Maldivian resorts we understand what such a resort should offer. This resort facilities are probably closer to 4 than 5 star and the service 2 / 3 star being generous. There is an air of cockiness that has spread from the senior management downwards particularly in the dining services offered. We had 4 quite frustrating experiences from cold food being served / forgotten eggs on room service breakfast / 4 attempts and a 20 minute wait to get served our selected wine which was situated in the wine cellar 2 minute from our table / incorrect food selection being served........of course one can expect the odd misunderstanding and / or mistake BUT there were too many and each time the offer of an apology and comments such as don't worry this is complimentary BECAME VERY FRUSTRATING!!
On the positive side there is a great house reef for snorkelling, the dive team are friendly and professional. The spa was excellent - great team there and very high standards. Room attendant Nafis was excellent with outstanding attention to detail and thoroughness of his work was impressive.
Apparently the GM was away so prior to our departure we requested a meeting with the resort manager - a very nice Turkish lady called Sebnam who was already aware of most of the issues we had experienced and listened to our constructive feedback with interest and gave her apologies promising to get the sorted.
On our departure as a goodwill gesture we were handed two gift wrapped resort bathrobes embroidered with our names.............arriving at home unpacking the gifts we realised they had been wrapped BUT someone forgot to enclose the wraps with them so now we have a choice - walk around the house with open bathrobes or bin them!!! You guessed correct!! My advice to the business - get rid of the top management in the resort - replace them all with Four Seasons staff- problem solved!!!
To close as I started, the resort that has great potential BUT ONLY when ALL SENIOR MANAGEMENT STAFF ARE CHANGED..... And quickly!!!
We won't be visiting again this resort but will be back in Maldives in 2013 and already can't wait as we love this part of the world.
