Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 7, 2012

This is not our first time in a five stars resort in the Maldivas but we were amazed and stunned from this unique beautiful pearl called Anantara Kihavah Villas Resort. This 5*resort really needs to be seen to be believed. We assure the pictures attached below ARE NOT Photoshop…
We admit to be a big fan of the Anantara hotels group, mostly because the put you in the middle and the staff make every difference in your stay. However this is the best we encountered as the Kihavah is touching pure perfection.
Everywhere you go in the island you can see and feel that a lot of love and passion were put in this remarkable resort , trying to find the perfect balance between a true Maldivian feel ,natural ecology and luxury. The island itself is an amazing preserve of nature and local architecture: villas are lost inside the dense green jungle of palm trees, birds are heard through the leaves , amazing orchids are everywhere, the water is pristine clean and warm and the reef is .. AMAZING !!
Architecture and design of the villas, main pool, all restaurants, even the main pool toilet, is touching pure perfection. A real joy to eyes, heart and mind…
We stayed 6 nights in the water pool villa and one unforgettable night in the beach pool villa….. Both rooms were truly incredible and huge!!!. We liked the water pool villa which was truly magnificent and totally worth the extra money. The water pool villa was huge, special designed bathroom with separate areas for shower, big infinity sea view pool, interesting daybed, amazing glass bottom tub and a lovely outdoor shower, comfortable King size bed, two walk-in wardrobe, lounge, outdoor patio and jacuzzi and high speed WIFI.
The room, amenities, bed, bathroom, deck and hot tub were all in the highest standard. The private pool was large, approx 8*4 meters, 1.2m deep. Large swinging daybed, 3 hammocks build right above the water and 2 sunlounger are the perfect setup for total relaxation. We were pleasantly surprised with complimentary fresh fruit platter (renewed every day) and a bottle of champagne wine upon our arrival. The overwater villa was just spectacular
Breakfast was so tasty and diverse, consists of a buffet of special whole wheat breads, cakes and pastries, different yoghurts, cereals, muesli, fresh cat fruits and juices, variety of omelettes, eggs, sausages, beans, hash browns, meditation food including falafel and humus, crispy bacon, excellent goat cheeses and even free champagne wine …. Breakfast was truly excellent and the view from the restaurant located on the beach near the main pool, was stunning.
Although we were entitled to get a complementary lunch, we have chosen to skip it most of the days. Lunch was excellent as we tried it once but we found out that it's better to eat a big breakfast around 9:30am and enjoy a full menu course at Dinner.
Lunch or Dinner in the undersea "Sea Fire" restaurant is a MUST ! Unique experience of eating underwater, watching the fish swim around you while eating superb food. The atmosphere was unique. At first impression you may think that the price of the fixed menu is quite expensive comparing to other international restaurant in the same standard. However, comparing it to other undersea restaurants, taking in account the fact that this is an isolated island with fresh food cooked and served like as we were in one of Paris finest restaurants - price was fair and reasonable.
The service is superb!. It's seen everywhere we went that the resort takes guest satisfaction in the first place. Everyone is attentive and aware of your needs and requests up to the minor details. The staffs are always smiling at you, checking to see if there is anything you need, ensure you are made at home on the island, provide local knowledge and just are outstanding. Zahid, our villa host was fantastic. He was so wonderful, most kind and friendly trying to do everything he could to make sure our stay was unforgettable. Aboo, our morning waiter during breakfast always remembered how we like our latte coffee, what kind of fruit juice each of us like, where we like to seat… every little detail. Ranga , the talented barman had introduced us different Mojitos which we loved even so we are usually a wine drinker and do not like cocktails. Ranga: thank for the excellent Mojitos.!!! Room service was Brilliant as well – fantastic menu, whatever you order arrives within 35 minutes.
Overall: the staff is well trained and focused on every single detail to make sure that your experience is first-rate
We really enjoyed our dinner at the Seafire. You may see our review under Seafire restaurant in the trip advisor. Bottom line: don't miss it. The Japanese and Italian restaurants were delicious as well. The fisherman and porcini risottos in the Italian restaurant were the best we ever tasted. Simply pure perfection. Our best compliments to the head chef. You are the best !!
We have met the general manager, DiDi, in a special circumstance which required his immediate involvement. After meeting such a kind, charming, passionate person we understood its needless to say we got a suitable immediate solution for our best satisfaction. No wonder the staff is so motivate with such good and positive energy, trying their best to accommodate all our needs, not because they have to but because they want to….
We have been in many 5* hotels around the world but remembered only one hotel manager that impressed us equally. She was from Anantara group as well…
All in all, this was by far the best vacation we ever had. It was truly a magnificent stay, long enough to fully enjoy and decide that it is a place to go back to whenever is possible, again and again…..
We would definitely highly recommend this resort to anyone going to the Maldives and looking to stay in a beautiful luxury resort with excellent service, valued for the money.
If you are thinking of going, stop thinking and just book it. We promise you will have the time of your live.

Firstly let me make it clear that we only visited AK for a day trip specifically to eat in "SEA", the underwater restaurant to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary.
From the moment we contacted reservations to see if this trip was possible right up to the time we left the island, the management and staff were prompt, professional and eager to please. We arranged for the Anantara speedboat to collect us from Reethi Beach resort where we were staying for the 20 minute ride to the island. Sadly, this was during the wettest day we encountered in our two week stay and I'm sure the boat crew at one stage "lost" the island, the rain was that heavy. But it didn't spoil the day.
We were given a tour of the island by Hushy, one of the villa hosts, or butler in plain English. He was responsible for the needs of the guests in about 6 villas. The rooms obviously are very modern as the resort has not yet been open 2 years. We were given a guided tour around the top of the range rooms where the likes of Roger Federer and Christiano Ronaldo had stayed which I must say are very plush. The lounge/dining room was probably 12mtrsX15mtrs with full dining table and luxury three piece suite. The bedrooms had his and hers dressing rooms, bathrooms with indoor and outdoor shower, baths with glass bottoms and toilets with glass panels in front.....no reading material required!! Snorkelling beneath the water villas was discouraged. All water villas have private pools and the top of the range units had jacuzzis on the decking. A nice touch on the sun loungers is the sunshade affixed to the top that you just hinge out to stop the sun getting in your eyes. All this could be yours for between 8 and 12 thousand dollars per night.
None of the restaurants had sand floors and were quite modern looking. All guests were wearing some form of footwear.....just as well we took our flip flops, the only time we put them on in the two weeks we were in the Maldives.
Whilst we were there, the guests were predominantly Chinese and Russians and a couple of Americans. No English.
I spent about 45 minutes snorkelling the house reef between the dive jetty and the spa. It would suit any first timers but I wasn't impressed. There is a good beach all around the island although some erosion at the water villa end prevents you from walking round the whole island. The sand is a mix of soft sand with a good sprinkling of crushed coral.
The SEA underwater restaurant was simply stunning. The setting, the view and the food and wine were outstanding.
In summary, an expensive island with excellent staff and superb dining. Would we return? To eat yes,but to stay no. To our minds, it's not the traditional Maldives and being approximately 10 times the cost of many 4 star islands, to us we would want 10 times the end product. We doubt you could get that in many places in the Maldives.
Once again, many thanks to all the staff for a memorable day, several of whom waved us off into the distance when we left.

John

Unforgettable experience. Best holiday ever. It took us almost a day to get here from Sydney. 8.5 hrs flight to Singapore , then 4 hrs flight to Male. Since it was too late, we had to stay overnight in Male to catch the seaplane the next day. A breathtaking 35 min seaplane ride before reaching the island. Worth the wait. Paradise found! We stayed in an overwater pool villa. Very nice place, serene and relaxing. I miss my afternoon nap in the swinging bed-like hammock in the verandah overlooking the crystal clear green water. A very helpful personal butler is always on call. Room is very well serviced. Transport is by choice. Walk or just call and a buggy/golf cart will take you anywhere in the island. Breakfast and lunch buffet was excellent at Plates. Maria, Mechelle, Tom and Jerry and all staff were very friendly. Excellent service. Have a sunset drink at skybar. Look for Benjie, the friendly bar manager.Book a dinner at Salt restaurant. Excellent food plus ambience. Don't miss the underwater signature restaurant. Wow!
My 5 y/o son enjoyed the kids club. Safe and enjoyable. Lots of activities. Ethan just want to stay with them almost the whole day. Afsi and the other staff did a good job.
The managers always make it a point to mingle and chat with
guests. Met Sebo, DD and the very friendly Carlito. Very friendly staff. So proud to see filipinos doing a great job. We decided to spend our last night with them and feasted on home cooked meals they prepared.
Overall, this is a place I would love to come back to. I hope we can come back and bring my other kids here.

To be honest that I set high expectation when I booking this island, but felt a little disappointed before I left.

Overall this is a great hotel with professional service and luxury villa. I stayed on a huge overwater villa which has delicate room decoration, big infinity sea view pool, interesting daybed, lovely outdoor shower, special designed bathroom, comfortable King size bed, high speed WIFI,

The food of dinner in Pool Bar, Salt, and Sea is above average. And the underwater view in sea restaurant is fabulous! The buffet of breakfast and launch in Plates restaurant is also good but there isn't any change in food categories in my staying days, which caused my wife and I don't want to go to Plates to eat our launch because we just eat exact the same food a few hours ago in the breakfast everyday.

The service of staff on island is professional and helpful. Reception can solve almost all of my problems quickly. Most of staff on island are very friendly except one who I meet at the day I left the island. I provided my feedback to island management team and hope it will be changed in future.

The snorkeling here is not as good as some other islands since there isn't any fish around overwater villa. You have to go to diving center for snorkeling.

The biggest problem to me is the noise. The noise of pool bump, air condition, even your neighbor, which made me didn't have a good quite sleep.

Fair to say this is a five star, luxuary resort, which is great for honeymooners or vacation. But comparing with other top five stars hotels, Anantara Kihavah still need do better in some areas.

we stayed in an overwater villa for 7 days. Absolutly amazing resort. The villas are huge, ultra stylish decorated. The bathroom is more like a private spa, amazing glass bottom tub and a lovely outdoor shower. Private Pool is large, approx 8*4 meters, 1.2m deep, so ists big enough to have a swim. Large swinging daybed ( we loved it!!!!), 3 hammocks build right above the water and 2 sunlounger are the perfect setup for total relaxation.
Island is beautiful, white sandy beaches with green palms, turquoise water and a great reef.
reef is only 50- 150 m away from beach, with a lot of colourful fish and plenty to see. we never got bored snorkeling around the outer ridge.
Staff is amazing, trying to get your stay as perfect as it can be, e.g. they made a special maldivien 4 course dinner which was not on the menu just because we once said we would like to taste some authentic cuisine. Great job by the chef!
Food overall is good, not great nor bad. good selection of fruits, western and eastern style breakfast, lunch served as buffet, which plenty of options for fish and meat grilled to your liking.
3 restaurants available for dinner, you should defenitly try sea, the underwater restaurant, atmosphere is great as is the view! Prices are resonable ( ~20$++ appetizer, 20-40$++ amin course, ~20$++ dessert, cocktails ~14$++, water 1l 7$++) , but this is nothing to get caught by suprised, as everything has to be imported. If you are on half board, you will receive 99$ credit per person for dinner. If you don´t spend it all, rest decays. During our travel time, half board also entitles you for complementary lunch, but not sure if you still get this during peak season.
We would definitily come back, as you get what you pay for, a perfect holiday with total relaxation, great staff, amazing villas and a beatiful island. Worth every penny!

We went to Anantara Kihavah Villas for honeymoon on 3-9 Sep'12. Simply it was an incredible experience.I would go back for sure if i can manage to save money to effort the trip. We have stayed on overwater villa and it was fabulous. I loved the vila. It was huge, the bathroom, the infinity pool, the bad, .. etc everything in the villa was just extraordinary. Our villas were being cleaned 2 times a day which was just great. Our Villa Host Isaac is an amazing host who took care of us from the first moment we stepped on the island untill we leave for sea plane.
The sea and sand around the island is just marvellous.
In terms of activities we have done 2 things; sunset fishing and snorkelling. We enjoyed both of them a lot. And staff was too much helpfull for both.
Our stay also included SPA for couple which was a remarkable one.
Food was delicious at every restourant that we ate. However it was expensive especially for undersea restaurant. But it was an unforgettable experience.
Gratefull to everyone working at Anantara Kihavah.

Having experienced an amazing stay at Kihavah last year we chose to return to this idyllic island once again and came with friends this time around. On our last trip we stayed on the beach and this time wanted to experience the Overwater Villa’s. Needless to say that these villas are more than spectacular than what they are made to look like in the brochures. They are well thought out and planned using the stunning scenery for ultimate privacy and comfort. Direct access to the sea is awesome and when in the villa you can still enjoy the aquatic life through the glass bottomed bath, and a glass panel on the floor in the toilet. Direct pool access is available from the bathroom, as well as the bedroom and patio. It is easy to get lost in the huge over water hammocks and fantastic swinging day bed. There was a resident ray that used to swim around and under the villa every afternoon while feeding and this was ultra special to watch while sipping on chilled wine and nibbling on the amazing charcuiterie plate. The ever attentive staff are amazing and a big thank you to the Dive Center team who took us out to Hanafaru, a world heritage site, to snorkel with hundreds of Manta Rays and even were lucky enough to see a Whale Shark. Sea, the underwater restaurant was as incredible as we remembered and the cuisine is defiantly up there with the best! Looking forward to our next trip to Anantara Kihavah, and hopefully stay in the 3 bed room villa next time.
