Just as we remembered from our visits to the Orlando and Niagara Falls restaurants, the café is still the same kid friendly place. Our service was good and when we notified them of bone in the burger..the price was taken off our check and we were offered another item from the menu. Parents would do customers a great service if they took their screaming child out of the restaurant faster.

The Rainforest Cafe in Gurnee Mills mall is cool - if you're six. If not, it is quite loud, the service is a little slow (long wait for food, check, with my daughter on the telephone), there is another sparkling cake thing coming out every five minutes with accompanying shouts from staff, and on top the food is expensive for what it really is. That said, the food isn't bad. There are a lot of options. The place is clean. And if you have young kids, they'll love it. (Alcohol kindly served.)

The drinks are as expensive as you would expect, and while the food is OK and the service was very good, it just doesn't leave you with a good feeling. Well, actually that could have been the Reuben that I split with my wife and had us both in the restroom of the shoe store before we left the mall. Which was actually kind of nice because I didn't have to worry about needing the restroom the whole next day while at Six Flags.

They do accommodate the families with children very well, as they get quite excited by all the decor and tend to bounce out of their seats regularly. The 'exit through the gift shop' approach is fairly annoying after spending so much on food and drink, but luckily they didn't seem to have anything my kids wanted - which is rare, so thanks to their gift buyers for that. My kids usually whine for something - anything - but we got out of there without a peep.

We knew going in that this was an experience, not just a meal, and we expected to pay for that experience.

The Good: The food was very good. Almost cruise ship good. We had a variety of sea food (coconut shrimp, blackened whitefish, fish tacos, scallops, shrimp) and all of it was tasty. Food was hot and properly cooked.

Service was excellent. Our server took good care of us. He was at the table every time we needed him.

The decor was as expected. We were seated by the family of tigers that "went off" every few minutes. After the second "thunderstorm" things were starting to lose their appeal.

The Bad: When we arrived we we given a card with a 15 minute wait time. 30 minutes later we were still waiting. The manager came up, checked with the host, Darren, and then apologized to us. 10 minutes later wen the manager came out again and we were still waiting, he sent us back to the seating area himself. Worse, when we got back there, at least half the tables were empty.

The bathrooms were digustingly dirty when we got there. I went to wash before we left and the same dirty, grime and trash were still there. No one had checked them over the hour that we ate.

Overall, I'm glad we experienced it, but we wouldn't spend the money to do it again. ($140 with tip for 2 adults, 1 child, and 2 drinks per adult)
