I have stayed it this hotel twice now, and it is a unique experience.
Sogndalstrand, the little one-street town right at the sea on the southwest corner of Norway, is incredibly cosy and charming now in the summer, with flowers all over and with a unique location along both sides of a strong current river heading into the Northern sea. The city was dead for close to around fifty years, and had been dead if it had not been for the founders of this hotel, bringing life and tourists to this little town.
The hotel is located in ten old historic buildings, dating back to I think around 1880. The rooms are individual, and all have their history - as have the individual buildings. The hotel, each house and each room, is decorated individually and are incredibly clean and cosy. Even as a conference center, this works very good. There are good conference facilities.
The kitchen serves great food with local ingredients - tonight we have had local hereford beef, clam shells as well as a creme brulle to die for. All coupled together with excellent tasting wines and local vegetables. The dinner and restaurant does not stand back for any European 5-star restaurant.
The service is also great. The people are truly proud of this place and feel it belongs to them.
For a special, historic visit into a town which is truly unique - visit this hotel. It is something very very special.
