Set in the south west part of Illinois, this lodge was built by the Civilian Conseervation Corps 1933-1939. The lodge has a family style restaurant with a reasonable pirced menu c/w a selection for children. We ordered the fried chicken, not knowing that this place is well known for this dish. It is no wonder, it was delicious! Portions are more than generous and most people left with containers carrying the extras that could not be eaten.

We happened to visit during their apple festival. This was our second visit there and the family enjoyed it except it the large chess set was not out due to the festival. We decided to eat there as the dining room was not crowded. Were we surprised when we were told there was a half hour wait with many tables open. Our family will go back to visit the lodge but will eat before next time as the food was mediocre and the order was messed up.

We were taking a peak at the Pere Marquette facility with an eye for a possible reunion venue. The setting is very nice, with cabins and rooms to accommodate many types of events. The dining room is lovely, cozy, and homey, with plush seating unusual for a restaurant setting. The menu offerings were varied enough and the prices very reasonable for an establishment with this sort of ambiance. The staff seemed very attentive and helpful. Located on the Illinois River, there are a variety of activities that could be coupled with the dining experience to make this a great full-day excursion.
