Take pictures. I loved the Japanese gardens, sculptures, vegetable garden, and tall hedges. Some of the flowering plants also smell great! Check ahead for hours and costs. Great place to stroll with friends or family.

I've been to the gardens in the summer and they are wonderful, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the Winter version of the gardens as well. The snow made everything look enchanted and the Japanese gardens were still just as charming. The lighting and the decorations were beautiful as well. The indoors were a treat as well. There were three greenhouses open - each with a different climate. There were great decorations in here as well. The highlight of course, was the train display. What a great activity for kids and adults alike. There are dozens of miniature buildings constructed from natural materials. You can find replicas of all the major Chicago landmarks including Soldier field, bungalows, Millennium Park, Sears Tower, the Library, etc...

In the dead of winter it was wonderful to see the beautiful greenhouses with their lush plants. The building were festive with greenery and poinsettias everywhere. The highlight of this visit was the Wonderland Express. This special event runs from late November through early January every year. The rooms are festive, and model trains are running through the "Chicago" themed villages. Famous landmark buildings are lighted and make this display so unique. It even "snowed" on us in one part of the room. We all felt like kids again! There is a cost for the tickets, and they are timed so that you have a certain time to go into the display - alleviating large crowds at one time. Very organized. Can't wait to go back to see this next year!

This place is so gorgeous even in the winter! I was hesitant because it had been snowing, but to my surprise it was breathtaking. This place is HUGE and parking is kind of steep at $25. I would definitely come back here in Spring or Summer when everything is in bloom and again in Fall. Let's just say I'll be back every few months, BEAUTIFUL!!

The Wonderland Express is a marvel miniature representation of Chicago made entirely of plant materials with numerous electric trains traveling throughout. It is especially of interest to Chicagoans who will recognize the many landmark buildings made from gourds, acorns, bark, etc. Artificial "snow" falls from the ceiling to add to the atmosphere. There is an interesting video presentation showing how the exhibit was put together.
