The Wonderland Express is a marvel miniature representation of Chicago made entirely of plant materials with numerous electric trains traveling throughout. It is especially of interest to Chicagoans who will recognize the many landmark buildings made from gourds, acorns, bark, etc. Artificial "snow" falls from the ceiling to add to the atmosphere. There is an interesting video presentation showing how the exhibit was put together.

We visit regularly. Every season is special. Winter greenhouses are amazing, spring is refreshing after a cold Illinois winter, summer explodes in color and autumn is awesome. Go anytime. You will enjoy it. If you can, grab a meal in the cafe or on the deck (in summer). Oh, the soup is homemade and fantastic.

Visited for the first time ever for a illinois national guard ceremony. For us parking was free, but normally $25 per car. The gardens are beautiful. Very serene. I especially loved the japanese trees

Located in Glencoe, IL this is an amazing array of gardens. Every season has something spectacular to offer. There is a waterfall garden, a Japanese garden, an English garden and more. During the summer there is a butterfly garden. The tram rides are excellent. They have a wonderful gift shop.

Thanks to a full membership at Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario we had a free pass to the Botanic Gardens in Glencoe. Well worth the visit, even in November. The grounds are beautiful, many stunning vistas and as there are not been any frost, even roses to sniff in the Rose garden. Especially enjoyed the English walled garden. Takes 2-3 hours to see only part of this lovely spot. Tram runs only til October.
