“Smells wonderful”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Starbucks was closed due to a water problem and they sent us down the street to Great Harvest Bread Co. The coffee was excellent but the bread was WOW!!!! The staff was so nice as well.

“One of a number of places in Geneva for sweet indulgences...”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

Cinnamon chip is a really good flavor. The cut-per-request bread samples are generous. Quality and taste with a price - comparable to other Geneva spots, whether it's pancakes at Egg Harbor Cafe, cake slices at All Chocolate Kitchen, or cupcakes with great frosting at The Latest Crave. Great Harvest Bread Co. is a great visit, every time.

“One block behind Starbuck's...an often missed gem.”
Reviewed January 7, 2012

Oh, what a difference one block makes. Starbucks, on the corner of Third and State Street, is prominent and busy. It's a small coffee house, with day-old scones and all the trappings of overpriced Yuppie digs.

One block behind it (almost the same city block, actually) on Third Street is Great Harvest, part of the chain, but this store has a wooden screen door that leads into a small, sweet-smelling shop full of freshly baked breads and pastries, and is less expensive and more homey than Starbucks. If you get there early in the morning, the bakers are making the items, and you may have to choose from what has already been made for the day--or come back, they'll tell you about when, for that specific treat you want. What you will get, though, is absolutely hot out of the baker's oven goods that will melt in your mouth. And of course, they have coffee and sodas and sides like chips. It's small, with limited seating, but my wife and I will commonly get our baked items and drinks to go, and walk down to the riverside (two blocks east) to eat a picnic of fresh food.

I long to tap the shoulders of those waiting in the line at Starbuck's, 100 feet away, and have them save money and help them trade that dried scone under the heat lamp for a fresh blueberry scone at Great Harvest.

But, alas, I live and let live.

“What's not to like and now lunch!!”
Reviewed March 23, 2011

If you want great bread, this is a must visit, and there's so much more (cookies, scones, muffins) and samples every day. Up until tomorrow, this was not really a restaurant but tomorrow they start sandwiches and I was fortunate enough to sample 3 of them today. All spectacular. I particularly loved the chicken salad and the veggie - not my typical selections, but wow - these pack a great taste. Best of luck to GH as they start this new endeavor.
