New menu, food seemed about the same. Salsa didn't seem quite as good. I always get enchiladas and always enjoy them. Their black beans are still good.

What happened here? The signs outside say Tia Maria's, but the menu inside now says "Jose Maria's" Not sure when that happened as Tia Maria's has been around for many many years. It's small inside and pleasant Mexican style decor. The menu is extensive. If you don't really know your Mexican dishes some further explanation in English may be needed as the menu doesn't really describe dishes very thoroughly. The menu is also printed on a very dark paper and is very difficult to read. The food is fresh and authentic, and reasonably priced. The regular margaritas are good, the mango margarita should be skipped since it has no flavor. Come here for real Mexican food made and served by those who know it best!

We live in Geneva and do our best to support the local business owners. We visit Tia Maria's about once a month and it's very consistent in the quality of the food and the service. The food is NOT gourmet (go down the street for that!) but it is good, traditional Mexican fare. The wait staff is primarily teenagers/young adults but the faces have become familiar over the years. They're quick with a smile, great with our kids and work quickly. With a 7 & 9 year old, we do our best to get situated, order, eat & get out. Tia Maria's is great for a night out without committing to an all night affair. We never feel rushed but appreciate the pace of the service. If we order an appetizer (love the queso fundido), our main course is served hot after we finish. If we want dessert, it arrives in a timely fashion. All in all, it's a great local establishment. Give it a try!

We have eaten here many times over the past 20 years. This used to be THE Mexican restaurant in Geneva. Yes, back then it was about the only one, but it was very good. It was a small, family-operated restaurant and quite a lot of care was taken to prepare the food well. The service was by family members who were efficient and very welcoming.

Lately, however, things have changed. I'm not sure if the same family owns it, but if they do, they don't work there any more. Instead the staff seems to consist of a number of indifferent teenagers. They aren't exactly bad servers, but they're not good ones either. The place was slightly re-modeled not long ago. The once-comfy seating has been replaced by hard, cramped seating that is also too low for the tables. The food has suffered too. It's not bad, but it sure is not as good as it used to be. The quality of the ingredients and the care in their preparation is just not what it had been. Meats used to be a good cut, now they are fatty. Seasonings used to be more subtle and flavorful, now they are salty and overbearing. I am probably being more critical than I should be, but it's because I remember how it used to be for about 17 of the last 20 years, and now it's just not worth the price any more.
