“Poor experience with poor food, service, and atmosphere”
Reviewed March 30, 2008

This was not a pleasant dining experience. I have had breakfast here on occasion several years ago, but have not eaten at Le Berry Bistro for several years.

The dressings for the salad were quite good, which were likely homemade, and the salad was a mixture of iceberg and romaine lettuce.

I had a cup of the french onion soup which was very good, although the cheese was not the best and the broth did lack depth to the flavor.

The $25 steak au poivre was awful. It had a lot of gristle on it, was very tough for medium rare, and the meat itself lacked flavor but was covered in bordelaise sauce. This is the result of two things: the quality of meat was very poor and the chef preparing the New York Strip paid no attention to the obvious pieces of edge fat and gristle that should have been trimmed.

My wife's chicken was very, very bad mainly because it lacked any flavor. The chicken was not under seasoned, but in fact had no seasoning on it at all and the sauce did not have much flavor to it at all to compensate for the unseasoned chicken.

The service was very poor, as the waitress did not refill our drinks once during the entire main course as she did not even enter the dining room during that entire time. She was not occupied with an urgent manner, but rather was seen talking in the kitchen with an older gentlemen whom served our drinks earlier in the evening. It was rather aggravating that she added an 18% gratuity to my bill at the end of the night as if she knew she did a horrible job and would not get that much otherwise. The gratuity was not a suggested gratuity as at some restaurants but actually part of the bill. The restaurant was not busy either. We arrived on a Friday night a little before 8:00pm and there were two tables just finishing. There was only the one waitress working. For half of our meal, we were the only people eating in the restaurant as a a group of eight waited for two more to arrive. To say that this restaurant is struggling would seem a gross understatement.

The Bailey's chocolate cake and raspberry cheesecake were quite good and a welcome ending to the meal.

Given the price ($13-$30), you might expect a fancy atmosphere or superior service, but we observed neither. For instance, the walls were rather poorly painted with faux bricks here and there, the carpet showed it's age, and one wall had a large mirror bordered by green rope light. A couple fake plants also had white Christmas lights on them.

I will not be going back and would not suggest it to anyone else either. The discount using a certificate did not come close to making up for the poor quality.
