The Herrington Inn & Spa

Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 22, 2013

My wife and I just spent two nights at the Herrington Inn. We were impressed with the property. We booked a spa overnight retreat which was the river premier room along with $200 credit at the spa and $25 dollar credit at Atwaters (which we just used for a few drinks at the bar). The room was very spacious with a great view of the Fox river. When I had read the description of the room i was a bit skeptical of the heated bathroom floors but now I want some as we visited on a cold weekend, this was a very nice extra to walk out of the tub or shower. If there was any complaint it would be that they need to add extra parking or force people parking for dinner or an event to another lot. Great weekend though, lots of shopping and dining options.

Absolutely beautiful property. Best Service. We were there for a Sunday afternoon wedding (10/6/2013) as guests and DJ. Everyone was so nice and very helpful. Food was perfect. We wanted to have a 'Shout Out' to the waiter that helped carry out the heavy DJ equipment to our truck. We appreciated his much needed help. Everyone was extremely polite and professional. The Herrington Inn & Spa will be on top of our list for a wonderful place to celebrate or even escape for the weekend.

We stayed here for one night in a deluxe room with river view. What a lovely place to stay. We enjoyed the large room that had a beautiful view of the river. The room was nicely furnished in imitation antiques. We loved the bathroom which was huge and had a beautiful Jacuzzi tub for two. There was a also a separate shower. We ate at the restaurant that evening and the meal and service were excellent and very professional. The next morning there was a complimentary continental breakfast which was a nice treat. We stayed on a Sunday night with a very good rate.

Every other year we return to the Herrington during St. Charles Scarecrow Fest. We have always enjoyed our stay. This year, however, one night cost over $300 but we were upgraded to a riverfront room. The room and service were excellent as always. However, I found some very minor things being downgraded. The milk use to come in the little jugs with "The Herrington" on them. The Kleenex and toilet paper in the room were very scratchy. Yes, these are very minor things but at $300 for one night I did not expect this. We have stayed in hotels that cost more and some that cost less but I cannot see this establishment cutting corners in such small ways. We always have breakfast in their restaurant as their continental does not interest me or my husband. The breakfast, as always, was exceptional. We will return and I hope they do not continue to downgrade the small things or move on to the larger things.

We were married here this month, and we, along with many of our guests, stayed at the hotel. We had a lovely riverfront junior suite, complete with four poster bed, fireplace, luxurious bathroom, and balcony by the river. Every morning we could see various birds, and the occasional fisherman, wading in the water. All our guests also enjoyed their accomodations--we did not hear one complaint from anyone during their stay. Quite the opposite--we heard compliments and accolades regarding the hotel and their staff all weekend long. We had friends/family come in from the four corners of the Earth--some very well traveled. Everyone seemed to be impressed (not an easy feat), but the Herrington delivered in every way. Our reception at their hotel was perfect in every way. We could not find fault with anyone, or anything. We coordinated everything with Deanne (director of events/catering), and she was a joy to work with, from beginning to end. We never felt as though she was trying to "sell" us, or push us into anything--she truly just wanted us to have a nice wedding and a good experience. "Bravo" to all the other staff members at the Herrington--everyone was extremely professional and helpful at all times. We heard so many comments about the servers during our reception meal, and how they presented the courses in a choreographed manner--we have never seen anything like that anywhere. It was truly like watching a dance. Whomever has trained the servers/staff has done a wonderful job. We heard endless comments about the food and variety of liquor served. When numerous guests told us that this was one of the best--if not THE best--weddings that they had ever been to, that was all could hope for when we first started planning everything. We know that we made the right choice coming to The Herrington. A+ all around. Thank you for a wonderful weekend and wedding. We will be back for our anniversary.

My husband and I stayed here for our first time in mid September, as we were looking for a quick birthday getaway without the kiddies for 1 night. Based on reviews and proximity to our home in the SW suburbs, we chose the Herrington. Nicole was so gracious in explaining the different rooms to me over the phone, and we went with a River Premium. We had a great time strolling around Geneva, and came back to a room with cookies and chilled milk, robes and slippers on the turned-down bed, and a comfortable nights sleep with a lovely view of the river. The morning continental breakfast was extremely adequate with fresh fruit, granola, cereal and muffins, so much so that we cancelled our breakfast reservation down the street. The breakfast hostess was extremely attentive to what needed resupplying, and even brought us freshly churned butter for our muffins. Shane at the front desk was kind enough to extend our check-out time so we could fit in a nice long walk along the river. Oh- and the added surprise was that a dish of chocolate covered strawberries was waiting for us upon check-in for my birthday, and I barely mentioned it to Nicole when making the reservation.
When we checked out for the day, we mentioned to Shane that it was too bad children weren't allowed, as our 6 and 8 yr-old would love the cookies and huge whirlpool tub. He informed us that children were absolutely welcome, and that we should call him when we were ready to bring them back. Well, we just returned from a 1-night stay with the kids, and they loved it as much as us. The Herrington arranged for two rollaway beds to be brought into the room, and they didn't forget to bring the extra cookies and milk.
I think everyone at the hotel went above and beyond to make us comfortable, and they now have some new loyal customers who plan to take a trip out to Geneva every other month for a family getaway! Try it out- you'll love it.

Room Tip: We stayed in 3rd floor King riverfront rooms that were lovely in Sept and Oct with their large balco...

I can say without a doubt that this small hotel surpasses properties of greater name recognition with ten times the staff. Personal, professional, perfection. This property's location next to the swift running Fox River adds to it's beauty, both inside and outside. The staff is welcoming, warm and dedicated to the comfort of every guest in your party, regardless of age.

I was on-site as part of a wedding party. Having never been part of a wedding, I was unaware of the multiple changes of arrangements. I quickly learned that changes come fast and furious, with great emotion attached...almost daily. Every- time I needed to make a change, I turned to Cyndi Rohlf, Sales Manager. Regardless of the degree of difficulty of the changes, or the nature of my multiple requests, Cyndi made sure every detail was met or surpassed. She is a key asset to the success of this hotel. The entire staff is professional to the extreme. Tom Hanks and Steve Martin have both been long-term guests of The Herrington while filming different movies in the area. Tom Hanks wrote a very nice blog about his stay here. Do not hesitate to book an overnight, a weekend or a special event at this property...you will be amazed, and thankful that you did.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies next to the Fox River are exceptional. Prepare to be amazed!
