Brierwreath Manor Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #19 of 33 Galena B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We found this B&B randomly, on our recent road trip, by just driving past. It was only one block from the centre of the main street of Galena which was perfect for us. Not usually ones for lace, quilts and soft toys we nevertheless felt instantly comfortable in this house - and Lyn's unobtrusive approach as our host added to our enjoyment. The room was wonderful, with a large bedroom and a sitting room with sofa and small TV (so we could continue to follow the summer olympics!). The nice little touches included a cookie jar, wines glasses, guest fridge, and coffee brewed early. We enjoyed a wonderful home cooked breakfast to see us on our way. Loved Galena and would certainly recommend this B&B as a great base to visit and enjoy the town.

Having stayed with Mike & Lyn at the Brierwreath several times, I can personally attest to their consistently wonderful hospitality. I always come away from their home feeling as if I've just had a cozy visit to Grandma's house. During our stays, we've spent a summer's evening drinking lemonade on their front porch and curled up for a nap in front of our very own fireplace in our bedroom on a cold wintery afternoon. During this most recent stay in the Mayor's Room, we retired back to our room after a fantastic meal at the Log Cabin just a block down the street, and settled into our very own sitting room, furnished with comfy chairs and footstools, candles, home-made chocolate-chip cookies, and a cute little TV tucked into a cupboard. After a night spent sleeping between soft flannel sheets, we awoke early to the delightful smell of coffee brewing right outside our door at our very own 2nd-floor refreshment station, and then later enjoyed a bountiful breakfast served at Mike & Lyn's dining room table. We feasted on scrumptious Pecan French Toast casserole, sausage, an array of fruits, two varieties of juices, as well as carafes of both regular and hazelnut coffees. On both occasions during our stays at the Brierwreath, Lyn and/or Mike have joined us for breakfast and answered all of our questions about Galena history, places to shop, or even what it's like to run a B&B. I always leave their house feeling as if I've been pampered and spoiled, just as I did as a child during a visit to Grandma's house.

We stayed at the Brierwreath Manor on a lovely fall weekend. Our bedroom was actually a suite, with a bedroom, full bath, and sitting room. This was large for a B & B bedroom. The bed was very comfortable, the breakfasts each morning were delicious. Lyn, the hostess, chatted with her breadfast guests and created a warm and inviting atmosphere. My husband and I walked to the charming downtown each day, never needing to use the car, except for a tour of the beautiful countryside and vineyards. Galena is a great destination and having a place to stay as convenient and comfortable as Brierwreath made for a perfect weekend.

My husband and I stayed at the Brierwreath Manor for our anniversary weekend. The location of this B & B is absolutely perfect! It's only one block away from Galena's wonderful downtown area, but it's quiet and relaxing when you need a break from all the hustle and bustle on Main Street. The hosts, Lyn & Mike were friendly and accomodating. We stayed in the Heirloom Suite which had a comfortable bed with a ceiling fan. The suite area had a daybed as well, with a stocked candy dish and chocolate chip cookies! :) The room was very quiet and roomy. The deceptively roomy bathroom was L-shaped and had both a bathtub and shower. The house is Queen Anne style with a beautiful wrap around porch. At night, the porch and entrance were well lit. We parked our car in front of the Brierwreath on the street when we arrived, and didn't move it once during our stay. Parking is also available offstreet on the Brierwreath's driveway. The home is decorated with many, many heirloom antiques! It seems I noticed something new each time I entered a room! Breakfast during our stay was apple blueberry pancakes, fruit and sausage one morning, and pecan french toast, fruit and ham the other morning. There were various hot and cold beverage choices, but we only had the juice - cranberry or orange one morning and strawberry or orange the next morning. Breakfast is served 8:30 to 9:30 each morning, which worked very well with our schedule. All in all, it was a very enjoyable stay and I would highly recommend the Brierwreath Manor for a homey, relaxing and comfortable stay when visiting Galena.

We called the Brierwreath on short notice; Lyn and Mike were able to accommodate us. The B&B is inviting and interestingly decorated. Our room, the Heirloom Suite, was fun – big bedroom and parlor – long meandering bathroom with claw-foot tub and separate shower – a surprising amount of space for a B&B. Lyn and Mike showed great hospitality and served an amazing breakfast. Highly recommended home away from home in Galena.

Room Tip: Heirloom Suite great for 2 or 3.

led on a girls getaway to Galena and stumbled on this little gem...we stayed in the Heirloom suite which is PERFECT for this type of getaway...it was originally 3 rooms in the house and now is a main room with big antique bed, rockers and small tv in one room...adjoined with a smaller room with a twin bed & dresser that can be shut off with a curtain and a HUGE bathroom with clawfoot tub & all the amenities (diff types of bubbles, bath salts, & rubber ducky) AND a big shower & sep area with a huge sink & plenty of room for your "stuff". Everywhere was something to look at...antique shaving accessories over the commode, old music boxes, candlesticks galore, teddy bears...even our key ring held an antique....and the crystal everywhere just gleamed....lyn the owner says her favorite word is "sparkle" and it shows!! Our breakfast was ser ved on great china with crystal and included strawberry (yum) & OJ, two types of coffee and yes plenty of creamer, egg & bacon souffle, fruit cup topped with whipped cream & nuts & an english muffin with great jam!! Conversation at the table was fun & lively and we had to pull ourselves away to check out!! Delightful and a block from the shops!!

The innkeepers were very accessible and always polite. We stayed in the Mayor's Suite and had plenty of room. The bed was extra comfy and the shower nice and large. The fireplace really warmed up the room. We were able to walk to all the Main Street shops and restaurants, as parking in that area is hard to find or you have to pay for it. We parked at the inn and didn't have to move the car until we wanted to go out of Galena. The food was excellent, and the innkeepers would ask you the day before if what they were serving the next day would be alright.
