Abbey's High Street Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #23 of 33 Galena B&B and Inns

I wanted to plan a little trip for my mom and I for her birthday. Although I planned the trip to Galena, I did not make reservations anywhere - and we were lucky that somebody cancelled their reservation at Abbeys. This was my mom's first time stay at B&B so I was bit nervous. But from the moment we got there, the owner Kathleen welcomed us to her home in the most hospitable way! The house itself is clean, charming, warm and very cozy. The garden are is extremely relaxing and the house location is is very close to Main street - I do have to warn folks about the hills! Great excercise for sure.
But the biggest highlight of it all - is Kathleen's breakfast. You will truly feel wined and dined being served fresh and well prepared goods by her. See pictures below. And again I cannot emphasize the kindness, friendliness and hospitality of the owners - Kathleen and Tom. Just a great place to go when you are visiting Galena. Highly recommended for mom/daughter trip or your significant other. Oh - and I almost forgot - and lots of love from their dog Quinnie - who is just a joy to be around - for the dog lovers!

From the moment you step into Abbey's High Street Bed and Breakfast you get a sense of the old world charm that is a part of Galena. The hosts, Kathleen and Tom, did an amazing job restoring this historical home. As soon as we arrived they made us feel welcome. Our room, the Grant room, was exquisite and immaculately clean. It was also tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. The view overlooking the hills was incredible and the jacuzzi tub was a definite plus. We stayed for two nights, and each morning Kathleen prepared a different home cooked breakfast. There was fresh fruit and yougurt, home made cinnamon buns, banana bread, and omlettes covered with tomatoes picked fresh from their garden. The garden itself is beautiful and even has a gazebo.

Five stars is not enough to rate Abbey's High Street B & B. Kathleen was a fantastic host and we loved hearing her stories and talking with her. Definitely looking forward to coming here again.

Abbey's High St. B&B offers an amazing view from a charming historic (Grant's Dr.'s house), renovated house from the ~1840's. Outside there is an antique gazebo to enjoy the house wine, snacks, or coffee surrounded by lovely flower gardens. The house is at the top of the hill and is only a few blocks from Main St.

There are 5 rooms, making it a cozy place to 'get away', which is just what we were looking for. We had the smallest room, which we were very happy with as it had a gas fireplace, beautiful view, and a full bathroom. Some of the rooms have spas and each room has it's own bathroom. The whole house is very clean and decorated with period pieces and molding.

We were warmly welcomed by Kathleen when we arrived and she explained everything (coffee at 8:30, breakfast at 9 in the dining room, how to get a hold of her, etc) and answered our questions about the house and sightseeing activities (we'll be sure to plan in advance to take the hot air balloon ride at sunrise/sunset next time!). She also gave us a pictoral map and Galena tourism brochure. She made us feel right at home but didn't hover.

Breakfast was DELICIOUS. We started with OJ, coffee, and a fresh fruit plate, followed by a light cheese omlet with bacon and chopped tomatoes straight from the garden and homemade cinnamon rolls that were to die for. Check out time is 10:30, but everyone enjoyed breakfast and lingered around the table to chat, so we left a little late, but Kathleen didn't rush us. She's really great at bringing people together. We all felt like old friends.

I wholeheartedly recommend Abbey's High St. We went there on recommendation from someone who stayed there recently and were happy we took their advice.

From the moment we stepped into Abbey's High Street B&B, we felt extremely welcomed! Kathleen was an amazing host the entire two nights we stayed. Her breakfasts were incredible along with the afternoon refreshments and evening wine. Kathleen gave us some wonderful tips and ideas and it was really helpful to make our trip the best it could be.
We stayed two evenings in the Thomas Suite which was delightful, comfortable and exquisite. Our view of Galena was breathtaking.
The location of the B&B was perfect. It stands up high and overlooks the beautiful Galena area. The gardens were beautiful and the evening nights in the gazebo had a romantic ambiance. The location was ideal since it was in walking distance to the historic town of Galena.
Our experience at Abbey's was top-notch. The entire house is historic, which was once owned by President Grant's doctor. The "feel" of the house was calming, happy and full of love. When in Galena, I will stay at Abbey's High St. B&B. Kathleen is a beautiful person in and out and has the knack for bringing people together. She is truly gifted and made everyone who was there comfortable and feeling as if we knew each other for years.
Yes, indeed. Our stay was memorable and we are forever grateful to our host. Don't miss this B&B. You will adore it, I promise.

The ambience is great in this nicely restored B/B. The hosts are helpful, attentive and welcoming. The breakfast is very good and served at a decent time. The gardens are fantastic. There are a lot of B/B's to choose from in Galena, but this one is worth choosing because of the hosts, house, view and food.

My Girlfriend and I came to Galena for a relaxing/romantic weekend away from Chicago. We so much fell in love with our hosts and this B&B that we cancelled one of our nights in another place and decided to stay here. I could not have asked for much more. The House was right in town, it had all the amenities i needed and nothing I didn't! We stayed in the Carriage House, the private room off the back of the house, was a wonderful reprieve. I also thought the breakfast was delicious(homemade freshly baked bread, fresh fruit, and amazing eggs!) Next time we get to town we will definitely stay here.

Our 20th anniversary was all the more special because of this wonderful B&B. Kathleen and Tom are wonderful hosts. The award winning restoration of Grant's surgeon's home is authentic and the grounds with formal garden and gazebo are a delight. Only three blocks from Galena's Main Street make this location very convenient for most Galena activities. Our room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable (quality bedding and a great shower!). Be sure to stay for the breakfast. We will surely return next year.
