Tour guide was well-informed and became more informative as we progressed. Lots of artifacts in a very "rustic" environment (not at all sterile like "professional" museums might be).

PROS: fair example of a house at that time period. Small and short tour inside the home. There is a store right beside it that has an “old time” photo studio in it.

CONS: can be expensive if there are a lot of people in your group.

The Dowling House is Illinois' oldest house, so we expected it to be a short tour but for $9 a person and four in our group, it was a bit dissappointing. The history behind the house is very interesting and there were many old-fashioned items the guide explained that were new to us. But, it was a very short tour and the house itself wasn't too much too see.

A story of early Galena and a tale of the lead mining and packet boats that made Galena the most powerful town in Illinois before the railroads surpassed the river traffic.

We got it as a combo deal with the Belvedere mansion. Belvedere was beautiful, this was just old. This was just a collection of old things, tours only starting on the hour so we ended up waiting for it to start.
