“Perfect Babymoon!”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

My husband and I came to Galena for our babymoon. We saw great reviews of Farmer's Guest House and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the Julia Suite. It was a large, beautiful room. The bed was very comfortable (which was a huge plus since I'm 5 months pregnant). The inn was clean and nicely decorated. We loved the Wine Time - complete with sparkling grape juice for me. The fresh cookies were a nice touch as well. Breakfast was amazing! Don and Susan were fabulous hosts. We have been to a lot of B & B's and they were definitely some of our favorite hosts. This was our first time to Galena and we needed a lot of guidance. Every recommendation they made was perfect. We had some amazing dinners - they even made our reservations for us. It was great to be walking distance to town - it took us about 5 minutes at a stroll. The Inn is on a busy road so if you are a light sleeper, bring some ear plugs so you don't hear the trucks. We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: The Julia Suite is a large, private bedroom. The bathroom has with a big corner whirlpool. Two tal...

Susan and Don are such kind and fun loving! The place is darling and very clean and great food. They are very knowledgeable and help with whatever you want to see while there. We loved walking around the very quaint downtown area. Great places to eat and the Inn is located perfectly . A very cool old building!

September 14, 2013---A day that went down in history!

My partner and I dreamed of an intimate, semi-destination wedding and decided that Galena would be the perfect location for our big day. After all, where in Illinois can you find rolling hills, countless years of history, and wine that runs like the Mississippi River? Only here!

We had stayed at Farmer's Guest House three times prior (once with the previous owners, and twice with Susan and Don!) Susan and Don allowed us to the rent the entire guest house and cottage, while assisting us in planning our wedding weekend just the way we dreamt it to be. From the first day of planning a year in advance, to the final breakfast at the guest house, the couple created a fabulous wedding ceremony weekend. From the Galena Cellars Wine Time Happy Hour with amazing hors d'oeuvres, delicious breakfast choices chosen to fit our tastes, delectable warm cookies waiting to be eaten in the dining room, transporting the flower arrangements to the reception dinner location downtown, to the gorgeously decorated rooms...what more could we ask for?! Chicago architect Mies van der Rohe once said "God is in the details." Well Susan's charm and great attention to detail shined. She placed Farmer's coffee mugs with our wedding colors in our cottage, altered breakfast to accommodate my gluten-free diet and our vegetarian guests (including leaving scrumptious gluten-free cookies in the cottage just for me), typed up a menu with the wine time cheese and snacks, and the morning after our wedding wore clothing of our wedding colors and had a mini surprise cake waiting at the table. Nothing went unnoticed!

The entire inn is picturesque in every direction you look. Our photographer had a field-day with over 3,000 total pictures being taken. My husband and I stayed in the secluded Cottage Suite up the hill housed behind the guest house. The Cottage charms with a duplex layout, skylights upstairs, gas fireplace, whirlpool tub with bath salts, miniature fridge, and two outdoor balconies with seating to take in the fresh air. It was the perfect place to escape the family while relax before and after the wedding ceremony.

By the time you leave the guest house, you not only leave with wonder memories but new friends (or in our case, new family members). We plan to return soon to relive our memories!

**If you would like to read more of what Farmer's Guest House has to offer (besides wedding accommodations), read my previous review.

Room Tip: Annie's Cottage is secluded and perfect for a special occasion.

Eighteen family members traveled to Galena for a weekend stay at Farmers Guest House. Don, Susan and Charles immediately make you feel welcome and afford great hospitality with wine and cheese hour, delicious breakfasts, tips and recommendations on where to go, do and see. They are great B&B hosts and exude hospitality and flexibility. The house is lovely, clean, well maintained and parking is convenient. We were lucky enough to stay in the cottage which is comfortably furnished. Loved the deck and patio area...which proved to be a great gathering spot. Walk into town! Galena is quaint, offers some interesting specialty shops (check out poopsies and the canning company). We ate at Vinny's Friday evening...service was great, nice atmosphere but very average food. Saturday evening we ate at Fried Green Tomatoes to celebrate my husbands parents 61st anniversary. Loved the restaurant, fabulous service with two waitresses taking care of our group. Incredible food! Susan had made the reservation and made sure the folks had a special dessert... Going that extra mile! We have stayed in many b&b's in the states and overseas and we give Farmers Guest House five stars! Don't hesitate to make a reservation, you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: The cottage is private and home away from home.

Stayed here two nights and would go back again. Susan was very friendly and helpful with suggestions on where to go. The Inn was very clean and well kept, the breakfasts were delicious and the room was updated and comfortable. Location was an easy walk to Main St. Galena.

Thank you for your review. It is a real benefit to our guests to be only a short walk to downtown. With plenty of off street parking, our guests frequently don't get in their car until they are returning home. We look forward to your next visit.

Over the past eighteen months I have had the pleasure of staying here at the Farmers Guest House several times. Whether it was a relaxing weekend with my husband or a midweek get away with a girlfriend, the hospitality shown to us was outstanding. Breakfast was scrumptious and the atmosphere was so inviting. We are looking forward to our next visit in just a few days to experience the beginning of autumn at our home away from home.
