Our recent celebration dinner was excellent. The Beef Wellington was just as we ordered it, tender and delicious with a flaky crust. The wine list is good, the desserts were excellent and the atmosphere was just what we expected for fine dining. The sun setting over the Mississippi was a lovely backdrop for our leisurely meal. Our friends who dined with us were also pleased with the night. Other reviews mention bad service - we told our waiter up front that we were in no hurry, but, even so, the pace was leisurely but not slow and everything was served hot and fresh. It was a Thursday night and there were other tables dining as well. The host at the door and Jared our server were both great. Thank you for helping to make our 10th Anniversary special.

We waited 3 hours for undercooked cold food. This is a high end restaurant, and even though they comped our liquor and desserts, we will not return. There are too many good restaurants in Galena to waste time here.

The restaurant had no idea we were coming & blamed it on Open Table. After we were seated, we sat there for 55 minutes before one of my friends got up to find a waitress. In that 55 minutes, we hadn't received water or bread. (My friend had to BEG for both.) After we finally ordered, it took over 1 1/2 hours to get our food. The waitress kept blaming the chef. There were only a few tables of diners; the waitress was worthless. The waitress told us several times she was the sister of the owner/mgr. They offered us NOTHING to apologize for the poor service & overpriced food.
For the price, the food was not good.
We'll NEVER go there again.

I made a reservation for last Saturday for 5 people for 8:00 at the Goldmoor since I had heard so many great things about it. I made a reservation on Opentable which I have done on so many occasions for other restaurants. I found out later that the Goldmoor restaurant actually cancelled my reservation, which is quite an unprofessional thing to do.
When we arrived for our 8:00 reservation, we were greeted as if we weren't expected. (Probably because they had cancelled our reservation and were puzzled why we had the nerve to show up anyway!)
We ordered a bottle of wine and were seated in a room. The waitress was very nice and poured our wine for us. Then we looked over the menu, placed our orders, and the waitress left...not to be seen or heard from again for 45 minutes. No bread, no checking on us, no letting us know what was going on...So I went in search for our waitress. There were only 3 other tables occupied in the restaurant. When I found our waitress, she told us that 1 of the chefs was out sick so there was only 1 chef doing all the cooking. I had to ask her to bring us some bread because we really were quite hungry. Now it's 9:10 and we get some bread. At 9:30 we get our appetizers, then our salad, then at 10:00 we got our entrees. The waitress never asked if we wanted another bottle of wine, never asked us if we wanted dessert, and it felt like we really weren't wanted there. The food was very good but if you're not staying at the inn, maybe you're really not welcome there at all.

My husband and I spent last Saturday night in Galena for a quick getaway. We were looking forward to a really special dinner at the Goldmoor. The reviews were so great that our expectations were high. We each started our meal with a cup of soup. Both of our soups were hot and creamy, but really flavorless. Then we had the dinner salads that were included in our meals. Again, no flavor or seasonings at all, in the salad itself or the dressings. And both the lettuce and the cucumbers were very watery, as though they hadn't bothered to drain them after rinsing. For our meals, we both ordered the beef Wellington, as it came so highly recommended. My husband had ordered it rare and it came to us medium well. Mine was supposed to be medium and it was shoe leather.

At the time we were at the restaurant, there was only one other table occupied in the main dining room and a group of about 12 people in one of the private rooms. There was only one waitress working that night. She was overwhelmed and barely stopped by our table. We often had to wait for 10 minutes or longer to get a drink refill or even ask a question. Our entrees took over an hour to come to our table. Judging by their overcooking, we think that they had been sitting under the heatlamp for a while. When we pointed it out to our server, she offered to bring us new entrees. But we had been waiting for so long, we declined. In the end, we each had one of our ($8) drinks comped from our bill.

The next morning we were speaking to the caretakers of our B & B. They told us that the Goldmoor has really declined lately. The owner's husband recently passed and she is in the process of selling Goldmoor and opening a restaurant in Dubuque. We are very sorry for her loss, but her business is suffering badly. It may be better to avoid this restaurant until a new owner steps up and improves the quality and service here.
