Amelias Under the Lamplight Dinner Theater
Restaurant details

If you're looking for live entertainment--and especially if you're willing to take a risk on your acting chops--this dinner theater is an excellent option in Galena.

The dinner service is on point, the food was tasty, and the drinks were plentiful.

The program's host, Scott, formerly worked as an actor in Chicago, but became interested in solo productions, and then in the challenge of improvisational theater. The Lamplight Dinner Theater is his creation, and his passion for the concept makes for an engrossing show. He uses unsolved cases in Galena's past as the premises for his mysteries, and he includes patrons as main roles or detectives. Everyone can be involved. Scott narrates and directs traffic, as it were.

I've run interactive film screenings, so I wondered how Scott would manage a bunch of amateurs, including myself. He fed us situations smoothly, so there weren't any awkward silences during the dinner when someone didn't know what to say. He's got an excellent sense of humor and he responded well to what the audience gave him.

Next time my girlfriend and I are in Galena, we'll absolutely check in to see if Scott has a new show going. Can't wait!

(NB: Regarding TripAdvisor's pricing breakdown, I selected "Fine Dining." The food was good, don't get me wrong, but remember that you're paying for dinner AND A SHOW.)

My wife and I came to Galena for her birthday. Normally we go to concerts all the time, but this wasn't an option. This looked interesting, so we gave it a shot. It was awesome. The murder mystery requires participation from the audience and the host (I wish I knew his name) was very entertaining and quick-witted. He really brought the best out of the audience.

The food was good, the service was consistent, and the people were kind. You won't be disappointed.

Dinner PLUS an interactive magic show.....what a great experience. Nice green salad first. The salmon was delicious. That pecan bread pudding dessert was incredible. The service was wonderful. The performance was stellar....we had so much fun. We loved it. Definitely going to try one of their "murder mystery" shows next. Thank you for making our anniversary weekend even better.

Great experience! I went with my teen son and we both had a great time. It was participatory and unique and the food and atmosphere were excellent. Amelia is a lovely host and John Green was an old fashioned performer in a rare way that we were glad to witness.

I took my GF here for the murder mystery as a surprise and it was an interactive and entertaining experience beyond. We were both fortunate enough to be picked to participate in the production and my GF did an amazing job when she got to play a major role. Even if you're just going to sit back and watch, like most folks do, you'll be in for a heck of ride.
