“Cozy and Hospitable!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

We stayed at the Steamboat house and was not sure what to expect, but Glen met us at the door and welcomed us into their lovely abode!! We were amazed at the hospitality and warmth we felt throughout our stay. We met Char in the morning for breakfast and her smile added beauty to the place. The breakfasts were excellent and we enjoyed the idea of knowing that we were not pressured to do anything but relax and rest which was our ultimate goal on this getaway. We were able to get out and walk Main Street to do some shopping which was only a very short distance from the B&B. The room was cozy and perfect for us and we will definitely visit again. Kudos to Glen and Char for being beautiful and professional people!!

We recently spent a couple of nights at this most charming of B&B's, where hosts Glen and Char do so much to make you feel welcome, and do it so well. The property is full to the brim with bric-a-brac and stories, so much so as to nearly make it a tourist attraction in itself. Breakfasts were sumptuous (perhaps a little too much so!), but impossible not to like. The 5pm happy hour for wine and cheese is a great way to relax with other guests, swap stories, and so on. Importantly, with so many B&B's vying for attention in Galena, I would venture this is one of the most conveniently located. It's set back far enough from the US-20 that we weren't bothered by road noise (we had the "Bess" room with its enclosed balcony overlooking the rear of the property - very comfortable), but close enough that walking into town was an easy stroll. One morning before breakfast, we rose early and found our way to a lovely nature trail along the opposite bank of the Galena river, making for a perfect appetite-building walk. We have stayed at a number of B&B's around the world over many years of travel, and Steamboat House is certainly up there with many other pleasantly memorable experiences.

We stayed with Glen & Char for the first time on Oct 8 and have NOT stopped talking about the wonderful time we had in their beautiful home! We have stayed in many B&B's and NEVER have we experienced such a clean and spotless home. They are truly masters of operating their B&B in such a professional manner all while making their guests feel welcomed and very comfortable. The wine and cheese "welcome" was such a special touch and was a great way to meet the other guests. We enjoyed a game of pool in their gorgeous billiard room and kept discovering piece after piece of unique memorabilia and antique pieces. I, myself, enjoyed playing the beautiful baby grand piano which welcomed me as soon as I walked in. We also enjoyed the company of two furry, little friends named Louie & Toby; what precious, well behaved little doggies! Breakfast was WONDERFUL and we truly enjoyed the bits of history that Glen & Char shared with us about the original owners; such a rich, historical experience. We definitely recommend The Steamboat House and would stay there anytime!

Skip the museums, just spend some time walking around the Steamboat House. Amazing collection of antiques including a fully functional pool table and a classic pinball machine. Great food, excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere all around. Just steps away from the river and downtown mainstreet in Galena.

Room Tip: Go for the Bessie... the porch is worth it. Just don't book it the next weekend we wanna head ou...

We spent one night at this beautiful house at the end of July. We rode up on the motorcycle and they allowed us to park it under a covered area. Our bedroom was large and quiet. Breakfast was delicious and the owners are so friendly. They offer wine and cheese (wine time) each day from 5:00-6:00 which was a nice way to talk to the owners and some of the other guests. The house is within walking distance to downtown so no need to drive. Even though it was a quick visit, we really enjoyed it and hope to return again!

We stayed at the Steamboat House for 2 nights over the 4th of July. It is a beautiful home full of lovely antiques with oodles of history. We especially enjoyed the beautiful grounds as we sat on the huge front porch with ceiling fans spinning. It is quiet and well appointed. Even with all 5 rooms full, there is plenty room around the dining table for the tasty breakfast. With wine/cheese at 5 PM and breakfast at 9 AM, it is a real bargain with a lot of class.

Room Tip: Our room was one of the smaller ones, but quite roomy and very comfortable and quiet.

My husband and I stayed at The Steamboat House B&B this past weekend for 3 days and had had a wonderful experience! The house is amazingly beautiful, clean, and very accommodating. The owners Glen & Char are so sweet and kind and very knowledgeable about the Galena area. The breakfast's are to die for! Wine & Cheese at 5:00 was so enjoyable as we relaxed on the hugh front porch. We are hoping to go back in the fall and would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the Galena area. Doug & Deb Best

Room Tip: We stayed in the Lene room but seen all the rooms and they are beautiful!
