DeSoto House Hotel hosted a history ghost tour in Galena. We happened to go on Friday the 13th! It was a walking tour and was very informative. Even kept the attention of a 9 and 12 year old girl!

Our family also went back for the Sunday Brunch at the DeSoto House Hotel. Great food and excellent service. Would definitely reccommend.

We were warmly and efficiently greeted by Sheila and Kathleen. Our second floor room was decorated very tastefully in an old fashioned theme. The curving staircase leading from the lobby to the second floor was truly beautiful! The hotel is decorated in lovely period furnishings including large painted portaits. Our room was on the back of the building so there was no street noise. I did notice however that the walls are thin and sounds from adjacent rooms could be heard. We had lunch in the hotel's onsite restaurant with big windows looking out onto the main street of town so it was fun to watch all the people going by. I had a chicken caesar salad which was very good. My husband had the taco salad which he said was average. The hotel location was PERFECT -- right downtown in the historic district so we could literally walk anywhere we wanted to go. Right next door is a root beer store and their floats were fabulous on a hot summer afternoon! We took the Tri State Trolley ride (ask at the front desk where to get the tickets and use their promo booklet for a small discount on the tix) which we thoroughly enjoyed. My husband is a real history buff and we both were fascinated by the rich and colorful history of the area that we learned from the trolley driver. So many cute shops downtown though most close early (5 PM). I especially liked the bookstore right across the side street from the hotel. A HUGE magazine selection as well as many books by local authors and on local interest subjects...and they are open until 8 PM! If you want a truly tasty dinner be sure and go to the Log Cabin just several blocks up the street. FABULOUS food! (You can read about it on Trip Advisor.) You will enjoy this hotel!

Room Tip: Our room was on back side of building which was very quiet (tho there is some noise from adjacent ro...

My husband and I recently got married and held our reception at the DeSoto House Hotel. This hotel has so much history and charm that we could not pass it up when we were venue hunting. Also, we were offered an excellant room block rate that none of the other venues we looked at could offer us. AND we booked pretty much the ENTIRE hotel! My experience working with the event coordinator, Deb Bertucci, was awesome! It was because of her that our reception went smoothly and beautifully, and she accommodated everything I wanted. The hotel staff were equally accommodating and very hospitable to ourselves and our guests. Also, we didn't see one small room. All of the rooms were spacious with high ceilings and very cozy. My husband and I really couldn't imagine our special day to be any more perfect and amazing than it was. The courtyard brunch on Sunday morning was pretty incredible too. On behalf of myself and my husband, I want to thank Deb Bertucci and everyone at DeSoto House for making our dream wedding a reality! We will definately be back to stay again very soon!

Room Tip: We were able to see some of the other guests rooms, and there really is not a bad room at this hotel...

Ordering hot breakfast from the Courtyard menu both mornings was a great feature. (Courtyard is an indoor atrium) We had time to take the 4:30pm narrated Trolley right after check-in and it gave us a superb orientation for our 2 day getaway-visit. We were pleasantly surprised by the extra welcome for our 35th Wedding anniversary and came home with two complimentary DeSoto wine goblets. Our room looked onto Green Street and we could see the Levee and the stately Post Office.

We stayed at the De Soto house during the week using the Memories Package which includes breakfast one of the mornings (we stayed 2 nights) and dinner on the first night in the Restaurant in the hotel. Dinner was in the Green Street Tavern and just okay. Our room was number 313 and was very nice with a Main Street view. It was a corner room and was great. The bed was actually very comfortable, we did have a LCD TV and DVD player in the room. There is no doubt that the decor is old but I must say it was very very clean and I am big on clean. The room was very spacious, had two chairs and nice desk. The bathroom was older but again very clean. The location of the hotel is great for shopping and they have a garage for parking about 3 stores down which was very nice. We walked down Main Street to the awesome shops and was close enough to take a rest in the room as needed. Breakfast was actually very good in the Courtyard restaurant. I did read reviews about a mildew smell and it was in the hallways but it also was 95 degrees outside. In our room there was no smell at all and you had control of the temperature in your room. They were doing some fixing of carpets and seem to slowly be upgrading the rooms. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the view, they said we had one of the best rooms in the hotel - Room 313.
